My criticism of the governor shutting down so many things so early (emphasis on the interior counties) is perfectly valid, in my opinion.

I wouldn't have reversed the interstate at all and wouldn't have closed down interior counties until Friday. However, I think we were extremely lucky and the potential for catastrophe easily warranted closing things down Thursday/Friday and cancelling the football game.

Sure got quiet as frick out there all of a sudden.

This time last week, the Atlantic looked like a connect the dots with all the systems out there and now, nothing.

Cold fronts are gonna start coming through regularly starting next week.

Usually protects us from stuff originating in Africa.

Only thing we can get is something that forms in western carib or gulf and shoots straight north

W. Caribbean spin up season now. Dangerous part of the season (Gilbert was near this time of year, Wilma an October storm, ect) but the season change ought to keep the Gulf pretty hostile should anything make it.

Eye on the big wave rolling off Africa now (99-L?) but can't imagine there will be many more as the ITCZ slowly migrates too far south for the CV storm train.

So what happened with this storm? I haven't seen any media coverage of it so I assume it was a big nothing.

You need to stop watching your bubble news then. It was pretty bad.

#11 came out of nowhere. That thing was suppose to run into major problems where it's at and was like a 10% chance to form this morning. That thing must've got organized well today. I haven't paid attention. That wave coming off Africa is hauling arse. Looks like Louisiana getting their first cold front next week. Change of seasons is here finally. I'm tired of this hot humid wet arse weather.

Monsoon season starts in October down South right? That's why Louisiana gets hit by a lot of storms in Oct? I noticed Caribbean this year has unusually high shear compared to previous seasons. Hoping that continues.

Bump

We have Tropical Storm Kirk now headed west toward the Caribbean. A tropical depression near the Caribbean expected to dissipate. 2 Invests in the Atlantic, one with a medium chance of development expected to track toward NC/SC

Down south where?

We don't really have a monsoon here in the SE anyway.

October isn't a big hurricane month for Louisiana. It does happen but the preferred track through history is coming up from the W. Caribbean into the gulf and getting turned out NE as the mid-lat cyclones get rolling. Ridge pushing in behind a cold front from the NW or a resulting trough eroding the Atlantic ridge. There are Lilis, but that's not the common pathway.

Classic example would be Wilma in 2005.

Good god Kirk is hauling arse.

I thought October sees a strong monsoon season around central america which is why a lot come off there then head north

The shear over the Caribbean looks to remain very hostile as Kirk approaches. It'd be shocking for Kirk to survive the journey as things stand today.
