Busses on icy bridges were the concern. If a bus wreck killed some children, the negative publicity (and impending lawsuits) would have been brutal.
IIRC, there was no precipitation, just cold temps

You recall incorrectly. There was precipitation and it stayed frozen on bridges and overpasses for days. You don’t remember the interstate being closed for, what, 2-3 days?

The hurricane hunters are in the storm now, so we'll know the exact intensity.

Yep
And dumbass baws thought they were invincible in their 4x4 trucks
Those things were sliding all over the place. Trucks are terrible in ice.

Not necessarily. You just have to know what you are doing and have good tires for it, which nobody down here does.

Backend of trucks is so light they will always be worse in ice than an AWD sedan.

That's why I carry a full load of sand in icy conditions. Well, that and rescue ops

no one reading this thread cares about truck performance in icy conditions you idiots MY GOD

Yes. A lot to consider on intensity levels though. Just because it has 70mph winds doesn't mean it extends very far outward. Looking at radar it doesn't look like a big storm at all where 200 miles people are still feeling TS wind impacts.
I think rds said this last year but the intensity forecasts are something the computer models really still struggle with as we saw with all the RI that happened last year with storms blowing up overnight.

If I had to guess from past experience, tomorrow the Northshore will have school. Cancel after school activities and cancel school Wednesday.

12z GFS shows shear increasing over the system and then eventually the mid and low level circulations decoupling. The system falls apart as it approaches landfall near Fourchon, a westward shift from 06z.

If Im not mistaken, you don't need precipitation for bridges to ice up in extremely cold weather. Evidently, you just need humidity. Supposedly it has something to do with cold air both above and below the bridge surface.

GFS is the oddball in this case though, right?
