I would be interested to see the difference in our news coverage vs theirs for the 2 storms. I have feeling if a random person watched the 2 they would think Florence would be much worse than what Asia is saying that typhoon will be

Frying Pan Shoals is right off Bald Head Island... hope it’s alright. We vacation there every year.

If you aren't joking what the hell do you do besides fish there? I feel like that wouldn't be a good family vacation spot. I would love it personally but couldn't imagine a family going.

Wilmington is going to flood so bad.

A weaker Isaac continues moving west into the Euro D5 position or maybe even SW of that.
Looking at things a bit more this morning, it looks like the 1st hurdle will be in about 3 days as Florence reaches the far south point of the forecast track (in that Euro run) and a big ULL over the Atlantic sinks slowly south. Anything stronger than an open wave or minimum TS probably gets turned north enough to slip into the Atlantic or get shredded by the Islands.

I use the NOAA buoy site quite a bit as storms approach. It always cracks me up to see them say "Storm Special!" Their excitement doesn't exactly mesh with the destruction.

late grandma's name
My late great grandma was Florence as well.
And she was tough as nails. Drank Budweiser and played cards every night, said her Hail Marys at the right time each day no matter what she was doing. Lived to be 99 yrs old

What is the latest on Isaac?
Is it playing out, or is it officially a hurricane and is there much chance of it getting into the GOM?

as I said earlier in this thread, I'm sure Katrina was a contributing factor to my grandmother ultimately succumbing to cancer

LINK"Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Isaac is about to move into the Caribbean Sea. It most likely will weaken into a remnant low over the next two to three days due to wind shear. We’ll continue to monitor Isaac over the next week or so in case the storm finds more favorable conditions, in the western Caribbean, regenerates, and moves into the Gulf in several days".
