It'll be a 3 when it hits. How many times have we seen a monster storm expend all of its energy 100s of miles out. It will hit 5, but by the time it gets near will be back down to a 3.

You very well may be right, but people need to consider that just because wind speed drops to a 3, that doesn’t necessarily correlate to a drop in surge and rainfall totals.

I hope no one in that thing's path try and ride it out. It is absolutely not worth it.

Oh, you know there will be YouTubes. Let's just hope they're more entertaining than tragic.

I'd hold the horses on that for now. Haven't seen flight levels getting g in that neighborhood just yet. NHC update at 1 pm, so we'll know if it was real soon enough.

How about Sumter?

Too close to the Santee.

The Santee used to be the second biggest outflow of water on the east coast prior to the creation of Lake Murray and Lake Moultrie. It receives the absolute majority of central NC water that isn't directed down the Pee-Dee. Not a good situation. It will crest.

Potential for heavy, heavy rains and possibly hurricane force wind gusts according to the 12z GFS.

North cola (blythewood) west (Lexington irmo) should be safe areas unless you're around the lakes. I would avoid downtown though

Check Lake Ocoee on Air bnb. May be full with the Clemson game but worth a shot.

Wonder if a call gets made early this week on some games. Especially if some of the state is being ravaged while it happens.

guys... that's a Cat 5 hurricane right now

that southern eyewall drop had winds of 165 MPH

That reading still has to be reduced to translate to surface and it is probably not representative of the storm. More likely to be representative of the upper level wind gust right now.

You might be alright in Sumter.

Maybe, still pretty close to the Santee. That bitch will absolutely crest.

Your commanding officers will tell you how fricked to be.

Seriously though, I talked to a friend at Fort Bragg Saturday and he had no idea there was a storm on the way before talking with me, and he's an officer.
