Any way to get some perspective on the size of this thing?

It's of biblical proportions.
It's bigger than Kim Kardashian's arse.

Something to consider too if it stalls out with the eye over water it won’t weaken very fast.

Thats if it weakens at all... this this would be stalled out over a constant flow of very warm water called the gulf stream.

Is it gaining any latitude? I know that has been the concern for a while among folks south of the current forecast track.

I'm sorry for your loss, rt3.

Prayers for those in the path of Florence - still praying for it and all other storms to dissipate or head out to unpopulated areas.

Anyone familiar with the flood issues and topography for the area in question? I don't think anywhere can handle that type of rain without major issues, but I'm guessing some can better than others, obviously?

Yes this would be very bad. The area from Fayetteville up to Greenville and east to New Bern are very susceptible to flooding as we saw with Matthew. Shut down of many roads, interestates, etc...

Selfish me really wants UNC to try to play their football game vs UCF in this on Saturday. Intense rain games are amazing.

Damn, that model looks horrible. Selfishly, since I live in Charlotte, I really hope there’s no southerly movement. But this is awful

Damn. That area will be crippled for a long time. I hope people are packing their shite and heading out. No need to be macho in the predicted path of that thing.

It really will be. I was at Lejeune and damn, if this sucker hits Wilmington to Myrtle Beach, it will be bad. Ppl out there freak the f out over small storms. I can't remember how many times Walmart was a shite show over smaller storms.

Hugo is the benchmark in this area?

Hugo was Charleston->east of Columbia->Charlotte.

And it moved fast.

I think Hurricane Floyd is a decent comp for this storm. And with Floyd, the forecasters completely whiffed when the storm suddenly weakened and made a northern turn late. Maybe we will luck out and have that happen here.

Models are lot better now, although imperfect. Even if the storm weakens before landfall, the accumulated rain is going to do damage. Look at Harvey.

Hell, initally Katrina did not affect New Orleans as thought; then the levees failed and holy shite, 1800+ died.

0z early guidance impressively clustered around Wilmington. Strong agreement five + days out.

or Lane in Hawaii just a few weeks ago

that didn't even make any kind of landfall... nor was it a hurricane anymore when it got there... just got close enough and let the volcanoes/mountains do all the work of dumping gallon after gallon of rain

I’m a flood adjuster and I’m trying to plan ahead.....The uncertainty of the whole thing has me hesitant, but Knoxville TN should be a good/safe staging area untill the aftermath correct? Thinking about heading that way Sunday.

Does anybody have any idea about Isaac? Is it going to be a problem for the central gulf coast?

Maybe if you have a helicopter. I'm betting a lot of those mountain roads will wash out.
