Why aren’t they swimming south away from the storm
Agreed because you don’t hear about these problems in Minnesota which has a much more orderly storm evacuation process.

What am I seeing in the graphic that would lead me to conclude the storm is going to take a turn to the north?
Looks like the wind currents would combine to move the storm toward the south or southwest.
Storms are steered at all heights of the atmosphere. Naturally all humans typically care about are surface winds. Apps like windy and other global wind maps are simply surface winds.

Probably going to get flamed but why do people continue to try and live on these islands that get hit at least every decade?
Like what is going through the mind of a woman who gets pregnant and wants to start a family on an island that should be uninhabitable except for those with the means to leave at a moments notice? Seems pretty selfish to start a family on a land that in the near future be the target of a hurricane.
Easy answer but great question it’s because population centers like Bunkie, Carenecro, and Luling can’t absorb these populations.

If only she put that much effort into maintaining herself.

Hmm, buildings are standing...impressive.

This is the Post Office and it was two stories
Look at the tree on the left hand side first building roof and the houses that floated off their foundations in background.

Great question? Every fricking idiot in this thread who asks “herp a derp, why do people still live there uhh durrr?” is a goddamn moron.
It really shouldn’t need to be explained to anyone with half a brain why poverty stricken people can’t leave bad situations. Also, it’s even funnier that almost every single one of those same idiots doesn’t want any of those people coming into our country.
Why do people with no money and nowhere to go stick around these places? That’s a tough one.
ETA: for the record, not a stance on immigration. Just pointing out the hilarity in people saying “you need to leave these islands! But don’t come here”.

A couple of NC counties here are having mandatory evacuations starting tomorrow and Wednesday morning. Starting to run ferries to get people of the islands on the Outerbanks. UNCW and Methodist University canceled classes until next week with a few CCs already.
The flooding was so bad last year from the hurricanes some of the public county schools were closed for several months.

Quick question , is there any concern with the weakening that this could cause a delay in the turn north ?
Yes. Absolutely. Nothing is certain at this point.

FWIW, I think the move is going to start pretty soon. Watching the expansion of Dorian on WV toward the north, the north tug might finally be winning.

The best place in the world to get a Bahama Mama is duhhhh The Bahamas aint nobody leaving for good.
Looks like another disturbance is forming off the coast of Africa. That will organize itself. How long does it take them to get to these parts?

Most of the models have it noticeably away from the Bahamas by tomorrow morning. It's still going to crawl for another 6 hours or so, but it's a hell of alot better than 1 MPH.
