Give American Pharoah or Justify a couple of cycles of juice like Secretariat was on and lets see what happens

Why have humans consistently been running faster and faster times in races while Secretariat still holds and unbreakable record at Belmont?

There has been a conspiracy among horses to sandbag. Secretariat broke the code...lucky he didn't get stitches afterwards.

Innovations in technique, training equipment, science of running, running equipment, etc. You're not gonna get that with a horse, and you can't modify its running style

Secretariat had a genetic abnormality (large heart) that his offspring did not inherit. He was actually known as being a terrible stud, although he did produce good lines through his female offspring as broodmares, not racers.

How do we really know humans have gotten faster? I wonder how fast we were 20k years ago, we sure as shite were a lot stronger on average.

This is a total and complete guess.

Horses have been evolving over a longer period of time and therefore have reached their zenith. Unless their environment changes and forces them to adapt in such a way that makes them faster, then they have likely reached their top speed as a species.

They are bred for sales and to be fast 2 year olds, not really to race anymore. Plus, we have to treat them with kid gloves and race less frequently because most are more fragile.

Also, a lot of performance enhancing drugs used to be legal.

I say most goes back to the breeding, though. Oh! And over here we breed for speed not necessarily speed carried far. Sprinters are every bit as fast or faster than ever.

Beyond nutrition, training methods, etc., human population is climbing exponentially. The pool of potentially record-breaking athletes comes from the number of currently living humans.

Population went from about 2.5 billion in 1950 to about 7 billion today. More living people seems to imply more fast people.

If it wasn't for the rest of your post, I would have to ask if you were talking about horses are humans,

You would think running so that you can get laid every day for the rest of your life by a different piece of arse would be significant motivation for those frickers.
