re: Huge lines are forming around the world to order a Tesla Model 3, sight unseen

It's an economy car
A day late and a dollar short, too.
It will not even be the first affordable electric car 200+ mile range. Chevrolet (and LG), of all manufacturers, will have them beat by about a year with the 2017 Bolt. They'll also have the benefit of an existing service network all over the country that Tesla lacks.

Let’s talk Tesla. The Bolt’s main rival, the Model 3, will be unveiled on March 31. We don’t know everything about that car yet, but in your mind, what sets the Bolt apart?
I’d say the main differentiation right now is we’re going to be ahead of them to market by at least a year if not longer, depending on how they deliver on their promises. We certainly are offering a vehicle that comes with a dealership network that’s nationwide, so for any maintenance items or accessories — or if you need to bring it in for service — it’s local, it’s within your community, and it’s with people you know. These dealers have been entrenched in communities for years and they’re a mainstay. People trust them and they’re part of the environment they live in.

the bolt is ugly as frick though...
and it looks like with the tesla supercharger system, you can charge much faster.

It will have more cargo space than any other car in it's segment.

But the Chevy bolt looks like arse

I wonder if this person has ever heard of the term "stealership"

I disagree. It could be better, but I imagine these things are designed to be light and very aerodynamic. For a $30,000 car that can go 200 miles on a full charge, I can forgive the small hatchback/crossover SUV proportions.
It will also have the benefit of being on sale a solid year (or more) than the Tesla 3 and can be serviced/repaired/sold/test driven through a huge, existing dealership network.
That's where I think Tesla screwed up. They took too long to bring this new car out, and a big, established automaker (Chevrolet) just beat them to the punch. It's quite possible the updated 2018 Nissan Leaf will do the same. Rumors are that Nissan is trying to best both Tesla and Chevrolet's range by up to 10%.
I'd much rather see thousands of Chevrolet Bolts running around than this hideous thing:
2016 Toyota Prius plug-in

Comparing that hideous bolt to the Tesla, nice.

Yea, they won't attract the same crowd at all.

That is a huge advantage for Tesla

That may or may not be meaningful, depending on the definition of its segment. Electric cars in the $35k range? Small segment.

vs
They aren't catered to the same consumer IMO
One is an entry level luxury car that looks good, and one is an ugly Chevy

he actually said any car with the same dimensions.

I get it, you're a hipster, its hip to drive an EV and spend 75 minutes to recharge it. Im old school, I own gas stations, so I think electric cars are silly. Id rather fill up and go on with my day.
If you charge overnight you can get 320 miles a day, with a 20 minute super charge it goes to 480 and with one more 20 minute charge you get to 640 miles a day. So 99% of days you will never have to stop unless you do over 320 miles in a day and if you are forced to drive 640 miles in a day yes you will "have" to take two 20 minute breaks like any normal person would anyways. You sound like such an idiot.

Ever heard of living in a city or non rural area. The majority of people don't need to worry about the recharge time because they aren't driving 100's of miles/day.
I work for an OG company that literally has reserved spots (the best spots actually) for electric charging.

It will probably be removed from the market by the time the Tesla a comes out because it's another shitty Chevy electric car that won't sell.

I actually don't dislike the Chevrolet Bolt at all. From what I've read, the Tesla is supposed to be performance oriented, the Bolt is geared towards ride share companies and commuters.
Will the 3 have the Batshit Insane mode like the P85D?

No doubt about it
Trying to decide if I'm going to be $1k down or wait

Then you are pretty stupid. You don't make shite on gas sales compared to what you make in store sales. Wouldn't you prefer that people spend more time (and money) in your store than getting a few bucks of gas and driving off?
Lol

Goddamn the handwaving in this thread is hilarious, especially the analogy to horses.
Don't care a whole lot either way, but part of me wants to see this stuff flop because of the fanboys.

I'd wait at least 2-3 years. Tesla is still a new company, and this is a new model for them.
Just out of curiosity, when the Tesla breaks down, where do you bring it to be repaired? How does that work? Can't exactly bring these things to Joe Bleaux's corner garage.
