The explosion, which created a huge mushroom cloud and caused a quake that could be felt up to six miles away, was reportedly caused by explosive material in a container at a terminal in Binhai Dist.

The Hong Kong-based CCTV has reported the explosion occurred at a hazardous goods depot.

The number of casualties and injuries is unknown. A producer for CCTV America says he witnessed at least two casualties on video.

That's a HUGE fricking explosion.

Am I bad for expecting to see Godzilla walking out of the flames in the video in the OP?

I was planning on going over there (Beijing & Qingdao) next week, but pushed my trip back to october a few weeks ago. I guess it's good that I moved the trip.

I take it you didn't fly the week after 9/11? Especially as a foreigner going into the US?

It's a business trip and we do have some cargo ship out of that port. One of our manufacturers is a few miles away.

ETA: We had cargo leave the port just 6 hours ago. Whew! I'd imagine there are going to be some major delays and lost cargo.
