Sound waves from what? Unless the backup generators are running for some reason data centers don't make noise outside of the building.

This is a sketchy arse crypto mining company that is in the middle of SEC charges for pump and dump schemes. Sucks that the state got bent over a table for these scum bags.

It is a massive heat sink. Unless they pay for the the work necessary to completely cool it and replace the water that it will take from the city. They should not be permitted to operate it.

How many threads are we going to start about this? Timeline is unrealistic FWIW they will never meet it

Who is they and what are the metrics?
U.S. Office of Management and Budget
From Google:
A Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is determined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) based on published standards that define a geographic area containing at least one urbanized area with a population of 50,000 or more, plus adjacent counties that have a high degree of economic integration with the central area, typically measured by commuting patterns; essentially, a city and its surrounding counties with strong economic ties to it.
US Census Bureau establish metro areas using these "metrics".

For example the Carrollton Water Treatment Plant for the East Bank of NOLA produces 110 million gallons per day. (They only measure 55 million a day but that is another story.)
Plus I doubt you need water treated to that extent. They might just pull off the River and treat it just enough to stop marine growth.

You think the corrupt S La politicians haven’t already made millions?

It needs to be clarified or else all of the sediment will clog up the towers and heat exchangers.

All new storage is going to flash memory and not spinning disks. The power supplies and fans are what cause the noise. My ears ring constantly from it.

Whoop de do. Less than $8M in salaries to tax at 150k average.
That’s permanent jobs. They are estimating 2000 construction jobs for several years

Wow that is a shite deal for a massive eye sore, huge energy demands, huge water demands, and massive noise pollution. Feel bad for anyone having to live anywhere remotely close to one of those places
There is no one that lives close. In fact there is already steady noise pollution in the area from a paper mill ( Hood )

If they aren't exempt from property tax, I'd imagine these would be pretty decent boosts to the coffers via property taxes
It will be a huge boost to the parish in taxes. Surrounding parishes like East Feliciana and Point Coupee will benefit as well

With this bit, and the fact that they sold that land for $500k, what a shite deal. We are such a desperate state for "business" aka, allowing the state to be pillaged
The parish sold the land at the appraised value. With what it will bring in with taxes they prob would have donated it if they could.

Seems like they’re destroying a natural hunting area for not a lot of long term benefits.
The land owners are fine with it.
What the article missed is that the parish sold about 100 acres that it owns for $500k. The rest of the land is privately owned and has been zoned industrial for a long time and for sale. It’s been bought for an undisclosed amount

Does anyone know if they have chosen a general contractor? I know the site just got approved, but with an "aggressive timeline" per the article I would think they have already chosen or at lease short-listed some GCs.
I know the META site further north already has GCs lined up.

Once through cooling can use river water essentially without treatment and then use that to cool a closed loop system that has very little makeup.

Meta revealed plans to build a massive, multibillion-dollar center in north Louisiana that will process data for the tech behemoth
Those places are enormous, but they don't have all that many employees. At least not the ones being built by Meta.

Ergo, BR is a suburb of NOLA, as is Lafayette, Morgan City, Hammond, Slidell, Lake Charles, Alexandria Shreveport. People commute from all places to the City of Nola. Using your logic of course. Sprawl does not create a suburb.
Galveston? 51 miles from there to Houston.
Kenner 46 miles to Gonzales
Lafayette 47 miles to Baton Rouge.
Guess everyone is a suburb of everyone.
suburb /sub'ûrb"/
noun
A usually residential area or community outlying a city.
The usually residential region around a major city; the environs.
An outlying part of a city or town; a smaller place immediately adjacent to a city; in the plural, the region which is on the confines of any city or large town.

The land in La is relatively cheap besides Nola area and there is easy access to energy resources. Data centers are extremely power hungry.
Plant maintenance will have a run for their money to keep employees as the data center industry grows in the area.
I can say my bro left data centers in Northern VA to come to Venture Global here, but realistically Venture Global is paying more than everyone else around. Contract laborers can make 100k down the road right now.
It's only a good thing that a new industry is evolving here.

Also from I can tell the parish isn't giving was any future tax revenue as incentives for the project, which if true is huge.
