Was it though? It ended up on the ground a half a moment later, indicating it really wasn't all that well held... but it certainly accounts for more than 0 added weight. It's just close to impossible to quantify how much/little.

Watch it again; the baton that falls was held by the girl that got hit. The one doing the hitting holds onto the baton through the end of the clip.

Is it really expected for someone to apologize for something that was intentional?
Yes. If your kid intentionally hit and hurt another child (with no justification), wouldn't you tell them to apologize?

stop making excuses for animal like behavior.

I don’t think anyone is making excuses for abhorrent behavior, just questioning the extent of the injuries being claimed.

Seems doubtful that the strike(s) made would cause a concussion and skull fracture given the implement used. Seems like an exaggerated claim to inflate the reward. Piece of rebar and it’s entirely plausible/likely.

Attacker should have been hauled off in cuffs immediately.

Downvote away.

I've seen first hand much worse that that on races. I've seen guys running at sub 5 minute pace have a fist fight on the run. I've seen guys warming up for the mile break into fisticuffs. I've seen shot putters go at it and pome vaukters turn into jousters.

Yeah, when races went behind the field house in the first turn, fists and elbows were definitely thrown.

Zero impulse control. Also, almost always, zero accountability.

She responds to the video by saying she didn’t intend to hit anyone with her baton

she’s crying not because she has any remorse. she’s crying because she is facing the consequences.

Hold on here. Was the girl that got hit black?

Looks like.

The offender should be kicked out.

Told you that would be the defense.

It's a good one and will work regardless of the truth.

Unless she has a history of this type of behavior or there was some buildup to the event that we don't know about, it's hard to prove that it wasn't an accident.

And it's in best interest of most parties to say it was an accident regardless of what they believe.

I'm sure the coach can come up with some form of punishment out of the public eye.

It's pretty clear to me that she didn't intend to hit her. The front girls elbow catches the baton, which puts her off balance.

That video makes it pretty clear. The girl passing tries to move in too early and catches her baton with an elbow, which pushes her right shoulder back. This obviously throws her off balance. She tries to take an exaggerated overhand windmill arm-pump to get her balance back. That is the one that connects.

After connecting with that one, she clearly tries to hold the next couple back. She even seems to think about stopping to aid her.

This happened about 10 days ago in Ohio state high school basketball tournament. Hang with it, the footage stalls between 25 -35 second mark and slow mo punch in the nuts at 46.
