on an application and showed up a white dude with no military service?

quote:

Currently, a five-point preference is giving for veterans who served "more than 180 days consecutively, other than for training, after Sept. 11, 2001 -- the day of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington -- through the last day of Operation Iraqi Freedom. A 10-point preference is given to veterans who suffered a disability during their service

Is the minority/veteran "extra points", something that people actually see and self score, or is it used just as a computer filter?

meaning, if 500 applicants apply online, will just saying I'm a disabled minority war vet help me get me to the front of the line and get an interview but not flag them to confirm that I am whatever I choose to self disclose?

You can just identify as a black disabled female war vet the day of the interview.

It would be bad if you said you were one.

It would be totally fine if you said you identified as one.

Eta: beat me to it

The way to go. Then claim discrimination when called out for it

What do you think happens if you lie on a job application/resume and get caught?

Thought provoking thread. Bookmarked.

automated filters sift through keywords and my guess is that a computer program pre-scores candidates and they pull in for interviews from that list.

meaning 5000 apply(no one reads 5000 resumes)
computer sifts through and scores resumes(see +10 mandate)
the top 30 scored resumes get sent to the hiring manager who then decides whom to call in for interviews.

What I am asking is, does the person in charge of selecting the resumes for people to call in, know their demographic or vet status?

If I were the HR rep I'd ask you to please show me how you shoot rainbows out of your arse, because you're a unicorn.

If you correctly filled out the rest of the application, any HR professional worth their salt would know something was amiss with the application.

Or, another way, the two populations are not concurrent subsets of each other.

Bruce Jenner identifies as a female.

Go for it! Then, sue for discrimination if you don't get the job.

This wouldn't happen. If you are a black female who is a disabled war veteran then you would never say it that way.

First you are black. Then you are a woman. Then everything else.

I don't see where it says race gets you points. Unless you are talking about points from the OT

I work in HR, lying on resumes and in the system is way way easier to catch then you think. I'd say about 1/50ish of our applicants lie about race btw. It's much more common to try this then you think.

I'm sure if one was to say they identified as one it'd be fine.

If I were to claim this, as an actual OIF vet, I'm sure I'd get scrutinized for white privilege.
