For vet pref with federal jobs, you need to supply a DD214.

Generally, what you're seeing in that language is that the employer is an affirmative action employer, so that kind of language is required to be in various publications and notices, not just job listings. An affirmative action employer is a federal contractor or subcontractor, and in exchange for that has to take specific proactive steps to recruit and advance qualified minorities, women, persons with disabilities, and covered veterans. Does that mean an affirmative action employer has to reject you for a Dominican woman who served two tours of duty in Iraq as a Marine? No, it means that the company at least has to be making a good faith, documented effort to get a rich applicant pool.

so if there's 4,990 white guys applying, and only 10 female minority disabled vets.....I'd rather be in the 1 in 10 group versus the 14 in 4,990 group of the 15 or so people they bring in for an interview.

I am just saying you don't get points at least for race. But I understand your point (no pun intended)
And if there are 200 AA males and 10 white females non-disabled applying for a position in an agency that has mostly AAs, it's best to be in the group of 10 applicants. It works both ways.

That's the way it is with my local govt. We don't award points for race or gender.

it's like the rooney rule

The Rooney Rule requires National Football League teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching and senior football operation jobs.

you may not get preferential treatment over another interviewee, but you did get preferential treatment over all of the other candidates that were just flat out rejected......and odds are that you given someone's spot.

In federal government, I can just tell you now that you are incorrect. It is vet pref, merit-based, or family-to-a-fed employee. Those are really the hiring caveats that I ever see. They ask for race in applications, but it is for tracking. In private sector, race matters more than federal, because private sector leeches off of public $$$ breaks for hiring minorities.

I am currently identifying as a black female who served our country and I think that has disabled me some.

So far nothing has changed since I first identified this way
