School Board says charter school must provide transportation. Charter school gives RTA bus tokens out. School Board says that doesn't count.

I'm ok with this for older kids. My kids, in 1st and 4th grade... ride a school bus (not for this school or even this district). I don't think I would be comfortable with them riding a public bus by themselves... especially if a transfer was required and the bus stop was not in front of the school. My 4th grader might be able to handle it... maybe.

Given the school district in play here... many of these people might not have their own vehicles to bring the kids to school.

In 7th grade, we used to take the bus to downtown El Paso.

Wouldn't let my kids do that now ... not sure I'd want to do it.

100 years old

Public buses are terrible places, I'd never let my kids ride alone

Einstein Charter is in the East, so no living person should be riding the bus in that area

Most charter schools are a joke.

While I generally applaud the out of box thinking and creativity in the charter systems... this isn't a good idea.

They’ll probably be better off taking an Uber.

I started riding buses & streetcars by myself in 3rd grade; back then it was called NOPSI. NFW would I let a kid that age ride alone today.

Depends on the kid. Probably no younger than 12. I and friends would ride the bus from Harahan to New Orleans when were in Third grade. That was when kids would go outside at daylight to play and come home when the streetlights came on. You could sneak off for the whole day. 1965 or so. A black lady that worked for us lived in the Ninth ward. Right down the street from Fats Domino. Went down there on the bus preBetsy and afterwards. All came to halt when we got caught at the Frostop across from Tulane.

Too many nutjobs in cities across the US. I would never allow it for any kid under 14 or 15.

And most public schools are a complete and utter failure...what is your point, relative to this thread?

I rode the city bus in 3rd grade with my older brother who was in 6th grade. Late 1970's.

I rarely see kids younger than middle school age riding the train by themselves.

Usually it’s high school students.

I don’t understand the question, unless you mis-spelled “pubic”.

I did a public bus, with 3 transfers from 7th grade until 9th grade.
