NOLA has very hard water with high mineral content

That's because NOLA uses lime as the initial step in cleaning Mississippi River water. Lime is calcium carbonate. That's the primary source of NOLA's water hardness.

The main concern with NOLA water is not how it is purified. Actually the mineral added to the water to purify it is a healthy addition. It's the old lead pipes and lead solder in the distribution system that are the main concern. But all cities with old distribution systems have similar issue.

I installed a counter/under counter reverse osmosis unit, and manage it myself. Excellent water. I also use a particulate meter ($25.00) which will tell me when to change filters, which saves me $$$$ for filter changes. I change the filter 1/3 as often as recommended.

Well water.

Really good well water. Same aquifer as Kentwood Springs and Abita Springs bottled water.

I hope this thread survives. We have some RA trigger happy hands for threads like this. Probably progtards hit RA just because...

Who drinks tap water anymore? You can buy a filter pitcher for like $20 and have delicious tasting water out of your tap for pennies.

I drank tap water for years not minding it, however once I got a filter pitcher and got used to drinking good water, tap water now tastes like bile to me.

Obviously tap water varies significantly, sometimes it's a little gross, other times it's very gross.

The tap water in my area is actually decent as far as tap water goes, but still, compared to filtered water it's terrible.

I've notice tap water on the Gulf Coast (Biloxi, Mobile, Pensacola, Panama City, etc.) is the absolute worst. I can't even get it down.

Hattiesburg, MS: swimming pool after a chlorine shock. Much of the time it has a brown tint.

It destroys your appliances and fixtures. I have used a filter pitcher for years but I am having a whole home water filter installed this year. It is terrible.

Baton Rouge ranks up at the tip top as far as tap water goes, and i’ve Had tap water from all over.

New Orleans is terrible. Lots of midwestern places not great either.

Mountainous regions have consistently delicious tap water.

Sweeney Texas and the region around his has bar none the worst tap water I’ve ever had the displeasure of tasting.
It tasted grey. Like the color. Showering in it made you feel dirtier. It was just awful in every way.

Memphis TN has the best tap water in the nation.

Knoxville’s is awful. Full of sulfur.

Atlanta’s is decent.

I buy bottled water if I’m thirsty in NOLA.

BR tap water really is good water. I can’t say the same for many other places I’ve lived or visited.
