By avoiding debt where you can, saving money, and not paying too much for things you don’t need, like a $50k brand new car.
You do realize used cars are going for like $20k right now right?
I always chuckle at the “by saving money” folks when the COL makes it almost impossible to save real money right now. Most rent payments cause more than my mortgage.

Have a strong pullout game. Kids and women will keep you poor.

got to buy at the right price
This is the part that's always gotten me. That's where the professional RE/Flip guys disconnect from the average working baw who works spends all day at his normal job in a different industry.
You gotta buy at the right price says the dude who spends all/most of his day developing real estate.

Exactly. Just taking into account the debt, $31 "T"rillion dollars. Each American has over $90K of debt. As soon as a baby is out of the womb, it needs to find a job to pay its share of the $90K. If you only spread that over "working" Americans, taking into account seasonal workers, etc., it's about $120K of debt per working person. It's my biggest concern. We CANNOT sustain it. It's a locomotive with no breaks.
This is why it irks me that people want to protest everything except how recklessly our tax money is spent. And its something most people can agree on. Why aren't there thousands of people marching in the streets over this? It is the biggest, realest issue facing this country. Its amazing how easily people are distracted by stupid culture wars.

Americans don’t know how to live within their means. Travel ball, car payments, fast food, soft drinks, manicures, alcohol, cigarettes , new handbags, truck nuts and Air Jordan’s aren’t necessities in this country

Because people are stupid and those in power spend BILLIONS to keep us divided and fighting amongst ourselves rather than against them.
The greatest divide in this country has nothing to do with race, gender or sexual identity…it’s between those with power and those without and until those without realize it, nothing will change.

that philosophy transfers to other areas of commerce too, my dad was a general contractor with a pretty sizable operation, he always told be that his profit margin on a job was determined at the time of the bid, it was then a matter of staying within, maybe beating, the budget and time constraints, similar strategy
ETA: the professional RE/Flip guys
another thing about those shows is that they are are about as realistic as other "reality" shows, they're being funded by the TV show and their projects are oversimplified, much like the shows about the alligator hunters in LA, did you notice those baws were dirt poor and had the shittiest gear imaginable in first season or two and then they started getting fancy new boats and rigs? that didn't come from a few gator pelts

Democrats have managed to shield a lot of their voting base from the economic pain a lot of others are dealing with.

So did my daughters. But doesn’t mean that what is happening isn’t messed up. We can pound our chests, high 5, and brag all day long if it makes you feel better, but we are f*cked as a nation at this time. And I feel really bad for those younger folks who want to earn their way and grab a piece of the dream. The progressive lazy wanting handouts can just go poof. But I worry for those who do care.

I just posted about a coworker who has saved 100k and the usual retarded response was that was not enough.
So you will have all kinds of stupid opinions in this thread.
Fixing up an old home requires more dedication than it does skill.

My first job out of college was $30k back in 1996. A kid bagging groceries at Publix makes $15/hr now. Do the math.
Well, if we assume that the grocery bagger is working 40 hours a week for 52 weeks a year, then sure they're making $31,000.
However, your $30,000 in 1996 has the equivalent purchasing power of $59,000 today.
There's also very little reason to assume that a minimum wage worker is working 40 hours a week.
Did your first job out of college have any non-salary benefits, because chances are that Publix kid's doesnt.
I made $30k out of college, too. My rent was $630, split with roommate. The actual apartment that we lived in, the very one, is now renting for over $2,000/mo. But gasoline was also under $1/gallon. My job did include benefits, which now cost the employee hundreds per month. It makes no sense.

I agree with this even though I also recognize that inflation has been a big burden on many. My wife works with a girl that's always bitching about being broke but she orders UberEats/Door Dash 3 days per week

I had this discussion with an older man the other day. He was telling me how people don't wanna work for less than 100k anymore and 50k is still a great living wage. I laughed and said no it's not. He said prove it. Well......
50k a year comes out to roughly $3,000 ish a month.
3,000 - Rent/mortgage 1000-1200 =2,000
2,000 - auto payment 200-300 = 1700
1700 - car insurance 200 = 1500
1500 - gas 150 = 1350
1350 - groceries 450 = 900
900 - health insurance 300 = 600
600 - utilities/internet 300 = 300
So with no phone bill, clothes allotment, any car repairs, home repairs, no outings at all throughout the month or savings, ya got about 300 bucks left.
Tell me again where folks are supposed to shite out the capital to take on a major home renovation.

The issue is 100% political and younger people are the most likely to vote for more of the same.
I suppose economics must not be a required course or GER anymore.

The question was how young people will ever “get ahead.” That means saving money. I agree that everything is more expensive right now, which means choices have to be made. If you want to save money for a house while groceries are expensive, you might have to drive a piece of shite car for several years. If your car needs can’t be met while you are working towards bigger goals for less than $20,000, then you have bigger problems than what you think the world is heaping on you.
