No rings, but won some games played great baseball against top notch competition in PG in Houston. Biggest event our 9u kids have played in and it was a blast.

Did you yell at him from the stands to get his head out of his arse?

My kid will actually be wrestling the next 3 weekends. That’s the extent of “tourneys” he will be in until next baseball season. Not enough time to practice/lessons for baseball over the last year with Laura and all the fields in this area FUBARed.

Football season isn’t too far away and he’s super excited for that.

Damn, nice. Registered my boy on U19 team this weekend...long shot to make the down select, or much less see the field, but he was invited so there’s no harm in trying.

Good luck to him! I was just happy to see mine on the field. This was his first full game since breaking his ankle in a Memphis tournament last September. Been a long road back.

My son can’t damn wait for football. It will be super interesting how it works out for him. He’ll be the varsity kicker as a freshman, but he was starting QB through 7th and 8th grade. Not sure if they let him JV QB and varsity kicker, or just the latter. Getting snaps at QB will be awesome in practice anyway, they actually have a QB coach in HS. He goes to a 7-12 all boys school, so the FB team is mostly a continuation.

Recovering from that has to be tough, so many moving parts. At least he’s young.

My son separated his AC joint and broke the growth plate in his left arm playing running QB in 7th, luckily they didn’t run him in 8th. That’s the worst he’s had as far as injuries. Scary stuff though.

I'm buying my kids travel ball rings for NOT playing. Lot cheaper that way.

Another successful weekend. Took 1st in a 12 teamer.

Demoralizing teams that don't belong in travel ball is hilarious. Kids crying, dads yelling because we run the score up, etc. First pool play game was 23-0 in 3 innings.

Your team sounds like its run by dumbasses who are just trying to win rings instead of playing the correct competition to get better. Congrats

haha or a team thinks they can hang with the big boys for one weekend and are easily shown the door

well their coach is just as big of an idiot.

I hate when teams play down when they know they should be playing up, just for the ring.

I equally despise the coach that thinks his .500 AA team is suddenly a high end AAA or majors team.

its dumb as hell.

we are majors. what else do you want me to do?

they were AAA and were 9-1 in their division. they played up and got handled accordingly. we're just that good. that's not my problem.

in that case, its different. I just see it alot in 10u and below, especially in the 8 and 7u where the coaches either dont want to play in the correct level to win rings or they want to play up where they do not belong. Usually its dads coaching who never played at all.

yeah I've noticed that. I hate the rings shite. I think it's stupid, but im not a tournament director so I have to deal with what they give for 1st and 2nd. I care more about getting them recruited and getting a scholarship more than anything. baseball recruiting is already tough because of so many kids, so I show mine off as much as possible so they can be seen when we go to regional areas.

the younger age groups always play down because the dads live vicariously through the kids. its pretty pathetic and why I refuse to coach those age divisions.

thats a noble thing to do if they are of that caliber. Biggest thing for me is just for the kids to have fun, learn to be a good teammate, learn to have success and failures, and learn that hard work means getting better.

Its pathetic. I am a dad of a kid on the team, but i am simply an assistant and I do not care if we win rings or not, neither does head coach. Its all about them getting better and learing the things above. Some of the moms get upset over us not entering tournaments that are easy to win, but we dont want the kids to think that earning a ring is easy. its should be hard and should take your best game to do so.

I was anti travel ball for a long time but finally got fed up with parents and all the BS in rec and moved over early on with my middle kid. Best thing I could have done.

This board jokes alot about stereo types and we do see that, but I also see much better parental involvement and just overall higher class and better people at the travel tournments. For me it makes it enjoyable not having to deal with bullshite.

Quality all around post and well said.

I’ll enter mine into tourney ball eventually l, but I just don’t think he’s ready. I’d like to teach him myself, but I’m not a good teacher and I get frustrated at him very easily because in my mind, it’s a simple task and I forget he’s 8. If I keep being frustrated with him and do nothing but argue with him, it’s mo fun for him and I’ll just wear him down and he’s have no interest. He’s got a long way to go. He’s just 8.
