....for someone that has a more technical mind (electrical engineer). Thinking about getting my law degree going part time. Just think with the field I'm in it would boost my career quite a bit plus just think it would be cool to have in general. No wife or kids so commitment shouldn't be an issue.

No one should go to law school right now.

Most of my friends with law degrees work in some other field and regret wasting the time, effort and money of going to law school.

You're one of the only people who should (if you want to get into patent law). Otherwise, forget about it.

Well...I wouldnt go expecting a different job or career. Just to boost my current opportunities with the company or field I'm already in...compliance/regulatory stuff.

Not that tough if you just want the degree.

If you are shooting for a high percentile in your class then it is tough

I would not recommend going.

That being said, I did not find law school "tough" in the sense of the material being difficult to grasp. It's more of a hazing process in my opinion.

Don't do that. Unless you want to be a lawyer (and you don't), don't go to law school.

ETA: As others have said, I didn't find it terribly difficult, but I am a slacker and my grades sucked.

Exactly. It's not hard getting through. But, unless you're going to be top 10% in your class or have a job set up with daddy, it's not worth it.

If you can post on TD, you can be a lawyer.

Would an MBA perhaps be more useful in that respect?

It's not tough. I have an engineering background too. It's easy but likely not a good investment. Do it if it's what you want to do but don't do it if you think you're going to be rich simply by getting the degree.

my $.02:

Law school is full of hot sluts that want to bang (and eventually marry) lawyers. I'd go just to get some tang and then drop out at the very least.

It's no where near as difficult as some would have you believe. You spend the first semester freaking out and studying more than you really need to, then get your grades and figure out it wasn't bad. After that, it's pretty slack each semester then the final six weeks are spent studying and taking finals. Tax law program was pretty hard.

That being said, don't go unless you have a specific reason you want to and know what you want to do. I have seen many people who finished in the top 1/4 of the class either not do as well or quit practicing; the people who may have had to grind through to make their grades but really had a passion for it end up being the successful attorneys.

Few things:

1) Don't go to law school to pad your resume in the job you're already in. That's what cheap MBAs and the like are for.

2) It's not that hard, but this varies greatly based on your background and skill set. I think some engineers would be great attorneys. Meanwhile, others aren't going to adapt well to reading and writing for a living. Contrary to popular belief, there isn't necessarily a hierarchy of skill sets, in that being great at math and science doesn't mean you'd be good at a BA craft.

3) This:

quote:

Law school is full of hot sluts that want to bang (and eventually marry) lawyers. I'd go just to get some tang and then drop out at the very least.

Isn't true at all
