How to keep a dog from scratching a door?

I have (I think) a boxer/Doberman mix thats a good dog, a little dumb, but good. He’s very protective when people approach but wants to be a lap dog once you get in the house.
I’ve recently started to let him free roam while we are at work and everything is great except any time we get a package at the door he does his usual go nuts, slam against the door, and act like he wants to take your face off. He’s scratching the front door to hell.
I’ve tried correcting the behavior (and will still try, but like I said he’s a little dumb) but is there anything I can do short term to keep him from getting to the door?

Whip his arse within 1.5 seconds of him doing it. Any longer than that and he has no idea what he is being whipped for.

Have the police come over.

Pee on the door to mark your territory

They make these soft plastic things that hang from the door knob. We got some because of our boxer. She won't bark to come in or out, just scratch. Aggravating but part of it.

Yeah that’s not good.

Clearly he has cat-scratch fever. Stop being an arse and help him transition to his rightful species and gender.

Get a piece of plastic sheeting or plywood and place over bottom of door. Pull electric fence wires over the plastic or plywood and electrify it. Two or three hits and he won't go near the door anymore.

Sprinkle some of this on the door while you’re gone...he’ll quit

Hire an insomniatic midget to live in your house and have her gently remind your overzealous hound not to scratch at the door 24/7

Have your house raised about 10 feet.
Bonus, No Floods!

Pain in the arse but a short-term fix is to drape a sheet over the top of the door as you close it so that it hangs down to the floor.
I have a boxer that chews and scratches the door during thunderstorms and this works.

I guess that would be a good short term fix.
I’ve tried whipping his butt for it but this protective instinct his buried deep in him bc he’s learned from whippings not to use the bathroom in the house or chew.
I don’t mind him barking at the front door when people come, just not attacking and jumping 6 ft up on the door.
I’ve looked into the plastic covers over the door knob but looks like it would only cover one side of the door.

My boxer scratches right where the door meets the weather seal. She can be aggravating at times but she's ours.

Teach him how to knock like the rest of the OT bawlers dogs were taught to do.

This one is just all over the door around the glass because he wants to go straight through it. It wasn’t annoying at the old house because the window took up almost the entire door. This one stops 3 ft from the bottom and the door is stained so not as much fun.
