How to deal with kids from other neighborhoods coming into yours and causing trouble?

I really don’t understand it. We’ve all seen it before, a hoard of beat up cars parking at the entrance of the neighborhood and getting out and causing trouble trick or treating. The question I always have is if their neighborhoodsare so safe, why do they come to mine and do their bidding...
Anyway over the years I have come up with several ways to solve this problem. Usually when I suspect them of not being from the neighborhood I just out right ask them. If they aren’t from around there I just turn them away. It has worked pretty well. Anybody else have their ways of dealing with this problem?

i encourage kids to mark the homes where they get turned away and come back and slash their tires.

We went to mandatory neighborhood ID in 2016. Problem solved.

Take their pic.....tell them IF anything happens, the cops get called and you'll give them said pic......OR just shoot one at random.....word will get around

We used to "landscape" classmates front yards on the night of Halloween. Park by the front porch, rev it in neutral and then throw it in drive as we peeled out of there. Always more of a chance for drama if it had been raining.

That's the best part of living in an "up and coming" neighborhood. It's just dangerous enough for no one to trick or treat

When I lived in the Heights our neighborhood had an enormous amount of trick or treaters. A mind blowing amount. Think a lot then multiply it by 10. 99% came from other neighborhoods.
You know what we and the neighbors did? Gave them candy. It's frickin Halloween you grump. Give the kids some candy.

Are they really starting trouble? These kids probably live in shitty neighborhoods and their parents want to give them a better experience. If they are simply coming to your house and trick or treating just give them some candy and be done with it.
When I was very young my street was just fine. As I got a little older my street sort of died down a bit and the big street about 5 blocks away blew ours away with decorations and stuff. They would go all out so I enjoyed going down that street. No problems. In high school we all went to this neighborhood where a friend lived as it was where everyone seemed to go. No real issues. Some houses had a little haunted house and stuff.
My point is this isn’t new as this was in the 90s.
