How to deal with a restaurant overcharging my card?

Went out to eat with 2 friends on Thursday. One person paid cash and me and another split the rest with our cards. The server initally thought the girls 25 was her tip and just kept it and split the total bill in half 2 ways between the cards . When we corrected her and told her to take the cash off the bill and split the restl, she did and ran it again. However, it looks like my card got charged for both transactions(weirdly enough one was posted that night and one was just posted tonight).
Do I call the bank or call the restaurant? Would have to go way out of the way to show up at the place in person.

If it is only $25 then forget it and move on. People screw up sometimes.

how is it possible that you have a credit card and don't know how to dispute a charge?

Call cc. They will handle.

have they both gone through or are they still pending?

Wait until Tuesday and then check your account again. If you still see two separate charges, then call the restaurant and have them look into it.
Most of the times, whenever a server slides your card at a restaurant, the bank will put a hold on your account for the amount it was swiped for. (plus an extra 20% to cover whatever tip you give)
Banks typically don't process the charges for the weekend until Monday, and so the "accidental" charges that were flagged by the bank usually disappear that night.
No sense calling the bank, since they will pass the blame to the restaurant. Calling the restaurant can be beneficial if it was indeed a double charge, but if it is a hold, then there's nothing they will be able to do about it and will just tell you to call them back later next week if there is still a problem.

Thanks. Why google stuff when I have the OT?
Looks like it's still pending. I'll see my way out.

I was a bartender for a while and this happened sometimes. It should only show up for 3 days because what it does is basically put the money on hold until the end of the night when they run all the cards. As long as the first charge was voided it'll go away.

Had a bar overcharge me. I just called the bar and explained that it was wrong.....manager fixed it right away.
Easy peasy.

Has the charge cleared or is it still listed as a pending transaction? If it's pending there is nothing you can do until the charge clears. I've had instances like this in the past where the problem cleared itself up when the charge cleared.

This is the correct answer.

Call the restaurant and bitch. If you don't get satisfaction there, call the CC company and contest the charge.

Probably pending charges. Wait until they post to see if still a problem.
I am not sure how it happened, but one time I went to a restaurant and charged it. Kept copy of my receipt because the pending charge was over what my bill was. When it posted it was for more then I signed for. Went to restaurant and showed manager and he just gave me the difference in cash.

One will drop off. AuthorizTions are temporary and fall off if the transaction is never completed by batching.
Be patient, in 3 to 5 BUSINESS days the first will disappear.

This. You'd be amazed at how many people do not know how their debit cards work. Not taking a shot at you OP.
