How strict is your company's marijuana testing policy?

My good friend who's an every day smoker of the devil's lettuce started a new job a little over a month ago. It's an executive level position, and when he signed all the new hire forms, he agreed to a drug test. They haven't mentioned it since, but since he's been there he's seen them send several other candidates for drug tests before they even finalized their offer. I've seen this happen at other companies as well with people I've known. It's almost as if once you get to a certain level, the rules are relaxed. Not shocking really, but just wondering if anyone else has seen this.
My wife's employer does random tests, but if your name gets pulled they give you a month to do the test.

worked at two Public accounting firms. wasn't ever tested at either and never even a threat of it. What people do on their own time is no business of their employer

I could piss for the pope so I don't worry about it but they do randoms where I work. A few guys here have failed and were fired then hired back a month or two later when they cleaned up.

My last job everyone was subject to quarterly random drug tests. I noticed that for the owner and the corporate officers, we never had our SSN's called for drug tests the 5 years I was there
