Take him to the vet and put him down. No need making him needlessly suffer like that. It’s too hot for titties.

Sorry, been playing golf. Appreciate the replies. I’m going to work on taking him more places with me. I coached and gave lessons to his brothers teams when they were his age. And would him if he played. I think I’ll see if he wants to go tubing this afternoon and hype him up on playing at least football.

Wait how big is he?

He’s about 5’-9” (which is pretty tall for a 12yo) and right at 200lbs. He’s flabby though, not thick. He has the body of someone not meant to be fat.

I do the same thing with my dog. With all the pet friendly places these days, it makes it a lot easier to enjoy his company.

Honestly though, I’d take up more time with him assuming you live close enough and start taking him to work out. When he gets interested in girls ie when he sees honeys walking around in nike shorts with tan legs at the gym, he’ll probably want to get in better shape. I was chubby as a kid and got put on Adderall for ADHD and started getting noticed by girls, that made me start working out and caring about how I looked.

....you're retarded.

A 12 year old white kid who is that height and weight has serious potential as a college athlete.

So can totally understand how a kid can get overweight. They’re not born with an inherent knowledge of what junk food does to them, they just know a little Debbie cake kicks arse.

It’s all on the parents. My mom kept a lot of crap around because she had a sweet tooth, so I struggle with that now. The way I avoid it is to not buy eat.

That, and if you cook at home and model healthy habits, the kid isn’t likely to go outside that.

Also, kids do have very different metabolisms. He could just be waiting on another growth spurt.

Oh, and as much as it might bother you, it’s not your place to intervene...unless it’s actually your son.

That's his problem in a nutshell. If mom is worried about developing a "complex", she's worried about the wrong thing. This kid is being allowed to develop a habit that will cause him to have a miserable life.

Okay boomer.

I played video games a shite ton through my teenage years and was never overweight until my mid 20’s early 30’s (we’re talking about 20 lbs, nothing crazy), which was easy to lose when I decided to lose it.

Alcohol is worse for your health than video games, “greygoose”

it's a symptom of being week minded and lazy usually in kids.

OP it's not your job and you should stay out of it, but if you really want to help the kids, you need to educate the adults.

Five simple steps to getting the kid to lose weight

1) 2 meals a day, lunch and dinner. Later if he starts baseball again and has lost some weight, he can add a third meal.

2) no snacks, no cokes, water or crystal light only

3) when he sits down for a meal it has to be as a family. No tv, no iPad, no phones, no distractions. After every bite, everyone at the table must out their fork down, wipe their mouth and take a sip of water. This forces you to slow your eating down allowing your stomach to tell your brain you are full. Can't have seconds for atleast 30 min after finishing the first meal.

4) restrict total screen time to an hour a day unless it's for school and this needs to be 100% enforced. This includes tv outside of a family movie night, maybe one night a week, two max. Family walks, especially before and after eating should be encouraged. Let him take phone calls, but text need to be limited essentially to the screentime allotment.

5) he has to play a sport, doesn't matter which, just pick one. Since he used to like baseball, that would be best especially if he joined a year around travel team. Normally I am very against specialization or overuse, but this case is a little different.

Now at his age, you need to encourage them to start practicing good sleep hygiene. This includes removing his phone from him after a certain time. Getting kids to sleep a full 8-10 hours a day is important. Naps are important at that age(doesn't mean laying in bed and watching the iPad)

He also is at an age where he needs to starting lifting or some form of exercise.

Not saying it will be easy to get them on board. Hell restricting screen time is a pain in my arse as a parent and my kids are all under 10, so I know how hard that is going to be.

Doing the above allows him to have whatever he wants for dinner, but will restrict his overall caloric intake enough to get him losing.

We were at a BBQ at my girl's grandparents a few months ago and this dude put down a full link of DD hot sausage, 2 fully dressed hamburgers, 2 hot dogs with chili and cheese, 3 scoops of macaroni and cheese, 3 Cokes, a Mountain Dew, a Powerade, a cupcake, and HALF of a monkey bread cake. HALF OF A CAKE. I couldn't stop myself from watching him go for seconds, thirds, and fourths.

That boy doesn’t have a problem he has a future in professional eating

Yea I know. I have no intention of getting in the middle of it. I don’t have kids or know the answer to making one unfat. Just mainly wanting to see others opinions on it

If I remember right you’re the lardass who posted a picture of your fat, pale, flea bitten leg on here no long ago. You’re probably a good resource on the subject. And a kid not playing football doesn’t have much potential to play football anywhere.

This. In the 5th grade I weighed 170 lbs. By the 7th grade I was a foot taller and actually lost about 20 lbs.

I get that. Used to worry about all three of my little brothers cause I grew up never thinking about my eating and stayed skinny. They were all chunky as frick. Now all three of them are more fit than I am. You never know.
