I actually think it probably is pretty hard to not get frustrated dealing with some rough people.
On the other hand, it’s real freaking easy not to kneel on someone’s neck for 10 minutes, instigate situations with firearms/violence where it isn’t called for, etc

This is the root of the problem. It's 2-3% in every dept. that is sullying the reputation of all the good hard work officers out there.
In the Corps we always had a way of policing our own, bad apples usually get people killed. We knew the bad apples and dealt with it.
Mainly on the local and state levels, there seems to be a lot of nepotism, cronyism and good ole boy system rules at work, and I'm talking about with black and white officers, that they know who the bad apples are and just look the other way because of some stupid code that is in existence.

I think this fact is behind a lot of the bad reactions we see from cops. They constantly have to deal with people pushing them and pushing them, antagonizing and taunting them daily knowing that the cops can't do anything to them. Did you see the video of the CHP yesterday when the mob attacked and broke out windows in the police cruisers with the cops in the car? That's insane. The complete lack of respect from the very people the police are policing and protecting leads to a lot of these bad decisions. Cops have enough and their anger boils over. Even those with the best intentions when they join the force, eventually wear down because of the complete disrespect and lack of appreciation shown to them.
And no...I am in no way affiliated with LEO.

Better question, how could any good, moral, protective person want to be a policeman these days? We are going to end up with a police force that has more and more of these out of control jack booted thugs because the good ones will find safer more rewarding employment elsewhere.

You have to understand that police work attracts a very specific type of personality. They typically grew up one of 2 ways.
The first was your typical high school bully. They enjoyed it so much that they carry it into adult hood. To them, actually getting paid to harass people is a dream come true.
The second, more dangerous, type was the one that received the bullying growing up. Walking around with a gun and a badge alleviates their crippling inferiority complex.

at one point my Dad wanted me to be a cop (mostly because I was unhappy early in my career and he had connections)
and this was always my concern
I was afraid I would just be too big of a dick to be a good cop
I commend myself for at least having the self awareness to admit it

The cops nowadays days are high school deadbeats, low IQ, and looking for power. With no other option or career path. Alot of them are closet racists and bigots. Hating everyone from blacks to foreigners.
Where you wanna be a cop is places like Russia and China. You could beat a dudes arse and nobody would say or do shite. And you wouldn't have to worry about getting clipped or attacked. Good luck coming out to "protest" and then rob and burn the whole town. Military would be in there taking joggers down like it's nothing. Putin got all his Targets fully stocked and in one piece.
