How often do you talk with your dad?

My parents divorced when I was very young and the communication between my dad and I was sparse. I got a “Saban Butt-chewing” the other day about not checking in more with him which I will admit is something that I have failed to do but it feels so strained since I heard so little from him while I was growing up. My mom calls me every day without fail and we talk for at least 20 minutes but my dad has never called me.

I am going to give a call tomorrow but how much did I fail as a son in the eye of the O-T?

My dad is dead. I wish I could (still) talk to him.

I work with him, so every day. Usually see or talk to him on weekends too.

Call him if you feel like it, don't call him if you don't feel like it. It's not that hard.

Communication is two ways so you should feel zero remorse.

That said, what does it hurt to initiate yourself?

My buddy just lost his daddy and he said just to give him a call, it will make his day.

My dad was here at my home tonight. Haven’t seen my parents in a few weeks so I cooked a gumbo and they came over along with my brother and niece and nephews. Good times.

Reach out, see where it goes from there. Communication is a two way street.

Does his phone only receive calls and not call out? Call each other weekly.

Depends on what kind of person he is. If Toxic/negative then don’t worry about it. Kudos to your mom for being both parents growing up. You didn’t fail as a son. He’s the one who should have made a better effort to be in your life.

It’s not too late.

That may have been his breaking moment where he was crying out to connect with you.

Everyone is different but that may have been his way.

Don’t let it go and y’all to him and move forward for what y’all do/can have.

It would probably be pretty cool now that y’all are older.

Whether you failed or not is not the question. You have failed as a son and he has failed as a father many, many times. It is whether you have persisted in the pursuit of becoming a better person and thereby becoming a better son or if you have persisted in your failures. Calling him tomorrow seems like a good start to setting the weight of the past of your shoulders and stepping on the path toward betterment.

Every other day at least. Don’t get to see him enough with our work schedules.

If you have the luxury, do it. I lost my dad when I was 12. I hardly remember any longer.
