How much would it cost me to register an out of state vehicle in Louisiana?

A friend of mine in Florida is in a bit of a financial crunch. He’s got a great 4Runner 4x4 for sale that i’d like to go ahead and take off his hands for him.
What’s the dmv fees gonna set me back?

You can look it up and it'll tell you the exact amount based on age and mileage of the vehicle.
Maybe just get liability on it to save on insurance. Although I certain insurance will be much higher in Louisiana than Florida

This is just a guesstimate, but it should be close.
You'll be paying around $100-120 in fees, plus sales tax based on the price of the suv and the tax rate where you live.
You and your friend will decide one of these numbers.

gonna be the same as any vehicle you buy, being out of state you will have to pay the sales tax value as well so figure your local sales tax rate times the listed blue book value plus about $40 for license and registration

I bought a truck in Texas last year and I don't remember any extra fee when I went to the DMV in Louisiana. The tax will be the biggest part.

You can understate the bill of sale to avoid getting reamed on the tax.
I bought a truck from my uncle in MS after my car flooded in Isaac. If he donated it to me, he needed to have a bunch of shite notarized and it was more complicated than a sale. So I bought the truck for $150 and all I needed was his signature on the title, a bill of sale that we wrote up and a copy of his MS driver's license. I think I paid about $150 or so to the DMV. This took place about 5 or 6 years ago, so I assume fees have increased some.
Sidenote: When I received my new title in the mail, some don't give a frick non-proofreading bureaucrat misspelled my first name. It's a very complicated and tricky name ... Timothy. I brought the title with me on my next trip to the DMV, showed them the error and requested a new title. They were willing to fix it ... just as soon as I paid $81 for a new title. frickers ...

You will pay sales tax on the value of the vehicle, not the sale price.
Check if Louisiana has reciprocity with the state it's coming from. When I was a TigerescapingfromMS, I was pleased to find out that Louisiana honors the first few percent of sales tax paid on a vehicle in Mississippi, so they at least used a little lube before they fricked me.

It should be noted that my situation was TRANSFERRING a title on a vehicle I already owned, not a purchase from out of state. I misread OP's situation.
I don't know anything on how buying a vehicle from out of state works.

Although it was plainly written in your post, I overlooked that detail. I was originally going to have an Act of Donation done on mine, but it was going to be a pain in the arse for my uncle. I know some stuff had to get notorized and I think he may have had to appear in person. I know they wanted his actual license, but I'm not positive if he actually had to be there himself.
