starting to think that healthcare pays well for a reason because you are working 95% of the time. Compare that to the desk folks here working half that
If the pay is close then seems like the best choice is the desk job.

My watch has to remind me to get up and move every hour. I sit in my truck watching YouTube videos and stalking every board here. Golfclash also burns some time.
I probably work 4 hours out of the week.
I work 4-10s.

Ebbs and flows. I'm in IT..sometimes I'm basically paid to just sit around and be available in case anything breaks, but sometimes I have several months of working extra, and getting up in the night of the night to do work that is service affecting, etc. Right now I'm in the middle of a stretch of lots of work.

I am pretty fricking efficient.
Walk in the lab by no later than 7am and leave no later than 4pm.
I am point on 4 projects right now and have cron jobs/automation scripts that do most of the software trials.
I literally re-built the entire lab I am in now over the course of almost three years. So I am able to break down old sites and create/update new ones fairly quick.
The only problem is now people are aware of this and won't stop emailing me
.
Currently trying to figure out a way to pass off one project
.
I get bored super easy so it's easy to be self-driving and look for work.
And the OT can sometimes get boring

Good to see my boss is a poster on here.

I work from 7am until about 7pm on average, sometimes later, and am literally nonstop busy the entire day. When I took the position I was one of 3 employees that did my job at a decent sized company.
2 years later and the company has gone gangbusters and expanded/grown by 30-50% in size and business, while the 2 others that did my job have both quit and haven't been replaced. It's nice being the only person in a company of about 200 that can even BEGIN to do my job (job security is basically a given),but it's a MASSIVE burden that leaves me nonstop stressed and busy with 10+ things to do at any given time.
Most jobs have "slow days" or downtime every so often, I honestly don't even remember what that feels like anymore. I've lost about 20lbs and was maybe 175 to begin with so I look like I'm dying, and the stress/burnout carries over into my outside life where all I want to do outside of work is sit around and sleep off the exhaustion.
The company has named me a "manager" and given me all the perks that come with it including a hefty raise, but I've been thinking about going to battle with them to convince them to let me absorb one of the two former employee's pay in full as well. It helps my cause that I have their nuts in a vice and nearly the whole place would come to a screeching halt if I wasn't around now. It's not a position that anyone in the current staff could train a new hire for, nor could any current employee remotely fill-in for me.
So what say the OT, would asking for a raise that equals one of the two former employees salaries be asking too much?

Your job is to find the most efficient way to do business.
You need to think hard about how to make your job easier while making the company more money and keeping your pay high.
There is an optimal medium for your desired lifestyle. Take the time and figure it out. It will probably mean you need to improve efficiency at your company, but you should be doing that anyway.
Good luck.

I'm an emergency department physician. Some days I have time to take a pee break. Some days I don't.

I work from home.
I don't do a whole lot.
When I'm bored, I roll up to the Target in Hammond Square. It's a nice place. I like to hide in the clothing racks, wait for people to approach, and whisper "pick me, pick me".

Work schedule is from 630-5. About the first 20 minutes is writing JSAs and getting permits. Then we have a 15 minute break at 9am and 3pm. 30 minute lunch at 1130. Stop about 5 minutes before breaks and start 5minutes after. Normally shut down and go back to the boxes at 430. So out of the 10.5 hours out there, only about 8.5 is actual work. And that's if everything goes to plan and we aren't stuck waiting on blueprints/material.
Then you got the guys that take 30 minutes to shite and walk like snails to the tool room. Some dudes will be lucky to put in 4 hours of actual work

I work 5 10's, 1 week of 7 10's a month. My productivity rate is probably around 80%.
I walk out the job trailer at 6:45 and don't usually walk back in until lunch at 12. Come back at 1 and don't walk back in the trailer until 4:30.
I run a temp labor crew (basically adult babysitting), coordinate where subs need to be working, and deal with any QC issues or deficiencies in building plans that we come across.
Usually afternoons are reserved for updating the schedule, writing my daily reports, and ensuring that whatever had to be done that day by the subcontractors was done.
The flip side is field management pays damn well.

Truth.
Outpatient clinic physician. Love my job but it would be nice to pee every now and again.
These stories of guys taking a dump at work are amazing to me. Have not had time to do that in a decade.
As an aside- I still love my work.

Cybersecurity. Well north of six figures.
I'm not paid so much for what I do as for what I know.

I work the way I get paid....once every 2 weeks.

I do fee appraisals when I feel like doing them. I do about one piece of property per week. On the ground it is an average of 4 hours per week. Then about 12 hours of research (deed research, pulling comps, etc)
So 16 hours a week just to have something to do. I am semi-retired.

I’m wondering if the posters claiming they barely do any work during the day are the same ones that would call teachers lazy, overpaid pieces of shite for having summers off.
