We were both in college and in student teaching working 40 hours a week as a teacher without the pay so money was tight. Our wedding and week in the mountains was $2500 that we paid for by ourselves. My wife handmade all of the decorations, flowers etc using the 50% coupon hobby lobby used to give. Her dress she got an amazing deal on and family cooked all of the food. I also had a family who was
DJ so that worked out as well. We did have to pay for the cake but that was it. Our wedding was much nicer than most that I have gone to who spent thousands.

If you aren’t getting uncle Earnie to have your wedding in his barn at a total cost of $475 including the DJ and keg, the OT doesn’t approve

I say give her an option, say we can blow a large amount of money on a wedding or use that money as a down payment on a new home. That way it's actually going towards something that will help to build your future rather than some decadent party.

I was not involved with any of the financials. Her parents paid for all of it. Probably $35k or so if I had to guess.

It was a great night. No regrets.

All in, end of covid lockdowns, under 10k. Me.

The only thing that was free was the DJ. We really made a priority list. We spent good money on the catering and venue. We made most of our own decor or used what the venue had. We set a budget on clothing and dresses.

It's just a fricking wedding.

Got married in 2021. Total cost was about 30k. My now wife and I paid 20k of our own money. My dad gave us 5k for it and her mom gave us 5k as well.

$25k and we paid for every damn cent ourselves. Biggest waste of money ever and I am still bitter about it. We could have gotten married on 1/5 the budget and had a nice wedding.

Married 5 years.
Got married in Jackson square, in front of St. Louis cathedral. Friend on TD got ordained to do ceremony.
We had a second line band and marched through quarter afterwards.
Red Fish Grill for reception, where everyone paid their own way.
Bar hopped afterwards.
Paid for rehearsal at Katie’s.
$5k (we/I paid ourselves).
Wife’s mother paid for honeymoon.

The wedding was pretty cheap, the divorce...not so much.

About $5k, got married on a cruise ship.

It cost 10K for the divorce, but worth it.

It didn't cost anything other than the drinks and food for the reception, which our parents paid for (roughly $2,000.) We chose to have as little burden on our family and friends as possible. No bridesmaids or groomsmen. Had a nice little shindig in our barn. Can't stand people that let their wedding put them or their parents in debt. It makes no sense.

The couple needs to see the wedding funds as their money so they don't treat it as a blank check.

Her dad told us... "I am giving you $10,000. If you spend only $8,000 then you will have $2,000 in your pocket."

We spent $12,000

Had a very small wedding with only family. Took the extra money her dad was gonna pay for it and used it for other stuff we needed.

Frick a big wedding. I would take that money instead of a wedding everyday
