Think about how much you’d want to deal with people who are looking for a $2500 car. Then decide if that is worth the money

Just wanna get that money investing and maybe pre preparing some payments to make sure I have a solid down payment.
If buying new maybe trade this one in and sell your current car instead.

If Kelly could make you an offer of $2,500, accept it -- because no dealership will. You may come closer to $2,500 if you sell it privately -- and if you fix the AC and replace the battery. But I imagine, you're looking at anywhere from $300 to $500 at a minimum to get these two items replaced and repaired.

If someone privately offered you $1,500, take it.

Obviously I won’t try and repaint it as I assume that adds cost.

I will try and scrape some of the flakier paint off though and look up how to make it look better.

10-4 on the headlights and every thing just getting it cleaned up.

You are clueless. The low mileage alone could get him at least 5k. I had the same year and car he is talking about 2 years ago with 93k miles and had several quick offers for 5k. Ended up selling it to someone that offered me 6k.

Was your paint peeling and A/C broken? Condition counts more than mileage. Age means more than mileage as well. No matter if the miles are low, if it's been sitting, it will not have been driven or maintained.

Paint peeling on a 2007 likely means that rust will be an issue if it's not already and broken A/C means a $1,500 repair right out of the gate. This is a car that will likely take $2,500 minimum to get right once someone buys it.

The market two years ago also isn't the same market as today. Things have changed rapidly and used car sales prices are down about 5-7% since 2024. That includes cars in prime condition.

Someone could give me $10 for this thing and I’d say fine. It’s actually a liability as I have car taxes I have to pay every year on it. Its only use is driving to and from the mechanic if our other car needs an oil change.

I want to put a little work into it and get it off my hands. Not trying to gouge anybody. Just wondering how to handle this situation. I was definitely going to consider listing it as is on Facebook marketplace and see who’s interested.

This feels like a thread that could benefit from pics.

Heading back to the first page to downvote.

ETA: the answer you're looking for is Carmax. Take whatever they offer.

There's three easy ways to handle it. First, stop by a couple of dealers that seem to have cars with some age on them and see what they offer you and do a little negotiating.

Second, drop into a place like Carmax, have them quote it up and if you like it, have them take it off your hands. This way will take less than an hour.

Third, post it online and see what comes through. ONLY do in person transactions. There are tons of scams out there that center around shipping the car. If anyone says they'll send you a check and wants you to handle shipping, you're being worked in a scam. Selling the car individually will get you the most money, but be the biggest headache. When it is time to sell it, contact a mobile notary to have them ready at wherever you're doing the sale to transfer the title. That way you don't have to jointly visit the DMV (this varies by state).

If you really want, the car can be gone tomorrow without much effort.

You leave your car at the mechanic when it's getting an oil change? It should take about 20 minutes.

Neither have I, just drive them forever then donate to someone who needs transportation. On the flip side, never purchased a new car and I am pretty old.

We just got rid of my wife's 2016 GMC Acadia with almost 150k miles on it. We traded it in for 3500 dollars everything in working condition. Those mid-size GM SUVs do not hold value at all.

I did not want to deal with trying to sell to immigrants so we just traded it in.
