re: How much should a company truck affect your salary?

I would never look at it as part of my salary, unless I was some sort of executive and the car was truly just a perk. If they give you a vehicle it’s because you’ll have to drive for work, and they should be paying for that. You also can’t use a company car like a personal car.
My company does a lease back program. I buy what I want as long as it has 4 doors and they give me a gas card, company insurance, and pay me a car allowance of around $700 tax free per month. It’s not bad if you keep the vehicle for 9 to 10 years because you just save the $700 a month for a down payment on the new one the last 5 years.

I consider my company truck's value to be at least $10-$12k and I don't even have that long of a commute.
I will say though, that the truck has never been discussed as part of my compensation.

2023 Chevy Silverado Custom. Any color I want as long as its white.
I think the key thing to remember is that it's a company truck. More than likely you will not have the ability to use it for personal use. If that's the case, then in no way would it affect my salary. It's for company work on company time and they should be taking the full hit. That's just part of doing business.

Exactly right!
Thankfully, the truck I drive now just has our company logo and no other information.
I'll still drive it like I stole it on the way home on Fridays

I would expect the company to factor the vehicle expense into the rate of services.

I’d say that’s pretty close if they allow you to use it for personal too
Gas card by itself would be 4-5k

My personal truck is a 2013 Tundra. She’s a bad bitch, but she’s a thirsty bitch. Terrible gas mileage.
When I took a new job in April, part of my offer was a company truck and fuel card. I absolutely notice savings not filling up my Tundra twice a week.

Or they could just not give you a truck.

Are you guys considering your commute "personal use"?
Because I don't use my company truck for personal use, but I do use it for my commute.
I consider not having to use my personal vehicle or pay for gas for my commute a very large perk.
I assume this is what most people consider a "company truck"

Is your commute home to office or is it to the field?

It’s a taxable benefit
You should definitely find out if they intend to include it on your W-2 as income. Many companies now include the value as a taxable benefit. I know a few folks that got a shock come tax time....

No way in hell it should affect your salary.
pretty much at every company I've worked for, you had the option for a company owned truck with no truck allowance, or drive your own truck with a truck allowance. But never affected your baseline salary.

Does it actually replace the need for a personal vehicle?
If not…then why is it considered such a generous benefit? It’s really just keeping mileage off of your own vehicle, which you still have to keep around. It adds value, but not much of it.

Make sure it's lifted, has a ton of extra lights that are all about 1000000000000000000000000 candle power, and be sure to run all of them at the same time, on high beam. You're not a real truck baw unless you blind everyone on the road with your lights.

Is the truck necessary to do the job, such as delivery or plumbing where tools and cargo are part of most days? If so, then the truck is worth nothing t you, the employee. They have to provide it or you can't make them any money.
Is the truck very useful and handy because you travel a lot for work within a 2-4 hour area, such as a salesman or project manager? If so, the truck still has minimal value to you as you don't want to be racking up 20-30k miles/year on your personal car and risking it at jobsites, even if you get mileage. Again if they don't provide the truck to a traveling salesman covering lots of miles, you can't provide much sales to them.
The other side of that coin is if you use the truck in-town or for airport runs and it's not really necessary to the core of your job description. Thats worth something to you, as you don't have to buy a car of your own now. Maybe $15-20k/year. Figure a truck is worth $50-60k and you keep it 3-4 years.
