Several hundred thousands. Every raise I got in my life I put it in a Roth. Retired at what I was making 35 years ago. Of course, spouse made enough to cover what we needed to live a comfortable life.

If you're making the same as 35 years ago, then you are not doing well financially. Also being sub 1 mil net worth when you're in your 60s or 70s like it seems based on post isn't doing well either.

40 years of work with what is expected to make more each year is a ton of time to save up.

Between the wife and I

403B retirement account

About a half years salary between the two of us in a HYSA (will probably move this to a managed account soon)

Everything after bills are paid goes into a brokerage account.

Keep about a month of bills in checking.

No immediate savings. No point when it only takes 7-10 days for money to transfer

You can't do a Roth unless you're below a certain income which makes you OT poor.

There are no income limits on a Roth 401k.

It’s bad form to discuss things of this nature.

I used to believe this as well. However, so many people are financially illiterate that I now believe conversations around money can be very beneficial.

It's obviously not productive if someone is just sitting around bragging but discussing loan rates or investment strategies is needed for most folks. Also can be a wake up call to someone who realizes they're behind on retirement planning. Many folks talk about retirement but think you can get to an age and stop working.

That’s not at all what he said. Work on your own reading comprehension before being so critical of others.

A home ON a street?

LUXURY!

Our house was IN the street, in a pothole.

I keep 2 months in my checking. I could cover just over a year from my HYSA. Also have a 401K and a Roth.

As of this moment $149k in deposit accounts (probably more than I should though I do keep a minimum in my checking account) and $280k in non retirement investment accounts

We are hard core savers, but it seems like we went from worrying about retirement to, holy shite, we’re rich, in a few short years. In reality, it was a “you have to have money to make money” situation.

Our cash savings have long been screwed by low interest rates for much of the time, so CD rates sucked, but the stock market has kicked arse for many of our years and added tremendously to our retirement accounts.

Kids, hit those 401k’s as hard as you can. You can’t afford not to.
