Maybe if you play the stereo louder, you can increase the amount of REM your getting.

As long as you aren’t drinking or taking meds that suppress REM, your brain should get as much as it needs.

I feel like this is one of those things I didn't think twice about before getting a smart watch. For some reference this is what my watch says is 94%/"Excellent".

Last night (out of 8:02) :
Awake 0:19
REM 1:50
Light 3:28
Deep 2:25

Until some a-hole calls or wakes the dog up and you wake up in the middle of an awesome dream.

Sidewinder.
Catchy tune but a terribly stupid song. They never played it in concert according to one interview I read because they all hated it

Or kids come walking down the hard wood hall that creeks. It’s tough to get a good nights sleep these days.

Nothing wrong with 5 hours. Sometimes even shiny happy people only get 5 hours

I function pretty well on 5 and im tired of trying things to try and sleep more.

Last night I didnt quite get 5 and Im doing fine today. I thought as I got older, I will get more but it just has not happened

Be careful putting too much credence in what your watch measures. According to mine, I’ve gotten two hours of deep sleep in the last seven days, which can’t possibly be accurate (my app doesn’t go into REM specifically.)

I’ve had well over two hours of weird arse dreams in the last two days

6hr 34 minutes last night
1 hr 14 min REM
4 hr 36 min Core
44 min Deep
29 Awake.

How it knows, I have no earthly idea. But that's what the Apple watch said.

I guess it goes by pulse and breathing rates?

I also get Blood Oxygen Min, [lack of] Snoring, Sleep skin temp, Heart Rate, and then tracks my night to night consistency.

I think it goes off skin temp, heart rate, and arm movement. It has proven it's ability to have some idea of what's going on. Dog half wakes me up barking and it registers at that exact time as awake and then of course drops into light sleep right after. Same thing with my wife being too damn loud weekend mornings and when I bash the off instead of the snooze button.

I don't know about the best conditions to get enough sleep, but I do know that night swimming deserves a quiet night.
