How much of a hit, if any, has the camera industry taken?

If digital crippled the giant that was Kodak, I'm sure some of the camera guys are suffering.
Peculiar side note, Polaroid cameras were all the rage with some of my friend's kids this xmas.

Totally destroyed the digital handheld (those little grey contraptions). With phones having the same megapixels and the ability to send it to the cloud/text or email the picture the camera was obselete. My Gf is a photographer and she does have the latest nikon but some of the latest phones like the iPhone X may do away with those also.

Smart phones are hurting the camera industry, especially DSLRs, primarily because they're omnipresent. They're easy to carry around. They're small and getting very powerful. A good DSLR is big, bulky and very expensive.

Low budget cameras probably took a hit. Really didnt have much of an affect with the enthusiest or professional I don't believe.
There's still quite a few things phone cameras aren't good for. There will always be a market for more useful cameras

Prosumer market is moving toward mirrorless. In general their less bulky and lighter. Phones still have a ways to go

I use a digital camera daily for work and take some pics of my phone screen documenting data using an app. I probably have had 10 of the same model camera with 12X optical zoom that cost $300-400 new. I buy them for $15-20 mint condition inc. shipping on ebay.

I am shopping for a mirrorless model right now. There will be a market for mid to high end cameras as used by hobbyist and pros for quite a while, there are 100s of things you cant do using just a phone for photography.

While it's surely taking a hit, on my latest trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights, phones were incapable of capturing the sights.
We still use small digital cameras (waterproof) when we travel. I just like the features and ease of use with digital cameras over phones. That, and you aren't handing over your expensive smart phone to potentials crooks in Europe when you ask for a photo.

Point and shoots have taken a hit. However if you want top notch video (for an amateur at least), you still HAVE to get a DSLR. They are $500 on the low end (before lenses), several grand in the mid-range and over $10k on the higher end.
I wont watch Youtube channels anymore unless they fricking are shooting with a quality DSLR. frick these people with a million subscribers who still film on their iphones. Cheap bastards. (I mean I get it, some shots are easier with iphones, but I'm talking about indoor shots sitting around chilling -- shoot that shite with DSLR you fricks).
As for still photos, DSLR's are still king. It's not close really. Ask a professional photographer if they can run a business with an iPhone. lol

And it still takes a better photograph than a phone. Cell phones are fine for photos for Facebook and I do use my cell for quick snapshots. But if I want a good quality photograph I pull out my bulky digital camera, especially for things like wildlife photography. The tiny lens in a cell phone is never going to match a decent camera lens and today's camera bodies do things a phone is completely incapable of. There will always be a place for a DSLR.
