People can be perfectly fine with their income and then be completely fricking disgusted if they find out an acquaintance makes more. They just wanna see how they stack up.
A work acquaintance wanted to hire me for a position in his office a while back. I met with him often because he is one of my clients. Anyway, every time we would meet he would ask me if I'd ever work for him, and I'd tell him "it really depends on the offer". He finally asked what I made and said he wanted to throw up when I told him. I'd be lying if it didn't make me feel good
I know CSB

Somewhere in the low $40k area. Started the year low 30s and made a move for a 10k bump. After bonuses and what not probably $45. Not much OT on the year otherwise I could get to 50k.

I got my 100 ton captain's license at 23 so by time time I turned 25 I probably cleared about 75 grand or so.

So I guess $70k is the OT norm?
I was in my sophomore year of film school and was a bouncer at a strip club. I was making $9/hr and got a whole bunch of tips which made up most of my income so probably about $40k working less than full time.

I was just trying to think of a profession that starts in the mid 30's and maxes out around the 60's. A teacher sounded about right (depending upon location).
not even close
been considering landscape architecture for grad school though.

I guess. Anything in the oilfield pays cash. I came offshore as soon as I could. Once I had enough seatime to get my A.B. I went from making 140 a day as a deckhand to 265 as an A.B. and that was a couple months before my 20th birthday.
It also suck being offshore on a damn boat while the rest of my buddies were out partying and having fun.

After I graduated though, much improved, thanks engineering

Freshmen in college at 25, but 24k of GI Bill.
In my first year of work now in a training program so 40 this year, then 50 and 60 in second and third, so I guess that would be "25" for regular college folks.

Speaking about your income, even on a message board, is pretty fricking trashy.
I was always taught not to discuss such matters growing up, and I was shocked to hear how many coworkers openly discuss this. Highly inappropriate.
I think this is total BS. The reason people do not speak about income is because others get uncomfortable because they somehow think income is a reflection of who you are as a person.
I believe in complete salary transparency - people should know how much they are valued in a company relative to their peers the same way they have the ability to go across the street to find new employment if they are under compensated in their current position.

I actually think most people in the thread have been sincere. TDings over indexes on college and graduate degrees relative to the US population, so you would expect to see plenty of numbers in the 50-65 range by 25.
I am happy with my income having just turned 26.

I'm not 25 for another year and a half but probably not as much as when I was 19. I Was making 60k a year, but of course I managed to do something stupid and now have a crappy job. 19 year old me wasn't responsible enough to be a general manager.
