Very low relative to other states.. Watch us balk again at a gas tax to fund a new bridge though.

Self service gas stations are also illegal in some of the northeastern states. I know they are in New Jersey.

Isn't Florida one of the states with no income tax? You have to offset that lack of revenue somehow. With all of the tourists they have driving everywhere, it makes sense that they'd heavily tax gas. Sure, their own citizens pay more as well per gallon, but when it comes to replacing income tax revenues, high gas taxes result in tourists paying a big part of what Floridians otherwise would have to if their income were taxed to fund the state.

Not in the northeast, but in Oregon you can't pump your own gas.

This entire thing just supports the argument that we should do away with income and property taxes and go to a straight sales and use tax based system.

Gas taxes go up and I’m buying a Tesla.
Screw that noise.
Government fricks themselves all the time with unintended consequences. All the push for fuel efficient cars.
And now the mpg’s are so much better than 20 years ago, gas usage has gone down (so we could be a net exporter of oil) and now they shot themselves in the foot on gas tax revenue.

Yeah cause thats the way lobbyist are pushing the way to confirm. Especially in your tesla (or any veh) with it's gps fully functioning.
Articles like this im sure are being written to start putting gas tax in a bad light to push national VMT.

If they get rid of the gas tax, I’ll be using my boat a hell of a lot more.
I’m exceedingly anti tax as you may can tell. But at least a gas tax generally charges more annually to those who use the roads the most.
I despise taxes that go to things I’ll never use.
Like property taxes paying for a shitty public school in my neighborhood when I pay again for private school. That ain’t right.
Baton Rouge School Board should love homeowners that send their kids to private school. It’s totally free money for them to waste on the great unwashed.

It is actually more regressive than that.
The working poor are the hardest hit because they are the least likely to have fuel-efficient vehicles and on average have longer commutes.
In the end, roads aren't going to pave themselves.

We’re taxed plenty in other ways to pay for roads. If you assume they don’t waste the money
