I can’t get any of these lawyers to give a straight up answer. They want me to schedule a consultation.

They want to do consultations because successions aren't one-size-fits-all. Estates range from having 1 heir and very little assets to having 10 heirs spread across the country who hate each other and the estate is very complex on top of that. There's not a set price range - it will be tailored to your unique set of circumstances.
It's like asking a plumber how much it would be to do "plumbing work" at your house without any other details. How big of a house? Is this including lugging a hot water heater into an attic, or is it fixing one leaky faucet?
All that being said, if the estate is really small and straightforward, it could be as little as $250-$1000.

Is real estate (a house) involved? You can used them for real estate now if the estate is worth less than $125,000. It will cost more if real estate is involved or if there is a will.
If you are just trying to transfer movable property or small bank accounts, it will be cheaper.

They've been committing felonies for a long arse time then. The first time I did business with them they handled the title transfer of my first car in 1994.

LA just changed the law Aug 8 to allow property worth up to $200k to be small succession.

Yes I understand that, it's just an extreme example to illustrate that estate situations can vary wildly. Therefore giving a price before the attorney knows all the details is premature. Most places should be able to give a decent price range to expect, though.

Well now it may be less straightforward than I thought.
My deceased FIL’s name is still on the house even though EBR shows a record of probate.

I used to do them for $100, but that was in Alexandria where fees are lower. You could just draft one yourself and get it notarized.
