Right now 560 a month for 1 child but only goes 7a-3p. Wife usually picks up around 12 most days though.

Place we are moving to, we have been quoted $800-$1200 per child

Was paying $420/week for full-time daycare for one child. She switched over to an actual pre-school when she turned 3 and it’s $1200/mo plus after care as needed. Our 1 year old is in daycare 2 days/week and it’s $200/week. Wife works from home. If she didn’t, we’d be spending over 3 grand/month for both of them

Figure out a way for her to stay home with the kid{s} you will not regret it.

She can pickup 4 or 5 houses to clean per week and make 300 to 400 cash per week maybe more and be able to take the baby with her. Most of the older folks especially widows just want a little company and someone to talk to.

My kids are grown now but that’s what my wife did, at one time she was cleaning 12 houses over a two week period. She made our spending money, vacation money and set some back. Plus the work was flexible enough she was always able to rearrange and go to all of the school events, doctors appointments etc…

Good luck

We've been lucky with both of our kids and daycares. Our son went to my parents house until he was 3.5 and my mom got sick, it was right before Covid, February 2020. He went to daycare for two years, it was around $1000 a month. Our daughter is now 3 and she also goes to my parents, but they're getting old and we may soon move her into a daycare. I'm not sure what the costs are now but I know it will be higher. Even if she went today, I look at how much money we were able to save between the two of them, we've bene very lucky.

Sounds like you need lessons in how to budget.

You also sound like someone who might need to start listening to Dave Ramsey or read some of his books. Both you and your wife.

Averaged $3,225/month last year for a nanny. $1,612 per child per month. New Orleans.

Starting school hopefully in August so number should go down a little.

My wife was a stay at home mom. (Kids are grown now) You have to know going in that you're going to make some sacrifices. Instead of a Tahoe, you'll be driving a Camry. Instead of a brand new house, you may need to get a fixer-upper. In the end it was totally worth it.

This.

Look at your finances. Where can you cut. Life comes in seasons. My oldest just went to high school this year. Wife was a teacher who stayed home after #2 was born.

We live in an older home. Drive older vehicles until I just replaced her old minivan with another used minivan. I don't have a boat. We don't take extravagant vacations. We do a lot though with parks and beaches and bank fishing and a small lease. We spend a ton of time with the kids. There's a tradeoff and imo it's worth it.

The next season will come and we will move to that one and every year we look at our goals and see if they still align with staying home with the rest of the kids.

Fact is your wife would return to work for likely another man that's not you to send most of the money to a daycare. So she can then pay taxes on what she earned.

I drive a 2013 f250 gas that's paid off and she drives a 2022 odessey. Bot bought used. No boat. Two old arse fourwheelers that work. I do maint on everything myself. We get by. If you can at least get them to middle school age you've done a lot and been able to imprint on them who you want them to be.

We paid $650 in 2009. Inflation calculator says that's worth $971 today. If you send them for 49 hrs a week, though, that's only $6/hr and includes snacks, arse wiping, etc., which seems reasonable.

But, that does kind of illustrate why low-income folks are caught in a trap in this respect. If their job pays $13/hr before taxes, they'd lose over half of it in childcare without family or welfare assistance. I know, think about that before you get preggers, and I agree, but the cat's already out of the bag at that point.

Lafayette area, $~700/kid. Oldest starts private school next year and it looks like that'll be a little cheaper.

Private school in Lafayette cheaper than $700/mo? Granted I didn't look at them all, but the 3 main Catholic elementaries and JPG are all more than that.

Steep dude, condolences

We're at about ~1350/wk before employer side payroll taxes. About 500/month for part time church preschool for the oldest.
