How much do you all save/plan for a family vacation?

I'm planning the summer vacation for the family, and I'm realizing that flying is going to be out of the question. I'll have to plan more per month.

What's the expected amount for a run-of-the-mill family of four vacation? Nothing too extravagant.

$3,500 or 350% of your weekly income, whichever is greater.

Try not to spend more than $350 per night on lodging

Honestly, this is all sounding accurate.

National.

I get how to go to the beach. I'm trying to think about traveling the country though.

How old are your kids?
How far are you willing to drive?
How big is your family?
When are you planning to take this vacation?
What are you looking to do? Beach, Mountains, Grand Canyon, Washington DC, Overseas, Mexico, Caribbean?

A Cruise?

Whats your budget?

Really need more info to answer this. How long, what type of vacation, how far away from home, etc.

Kids: 10 and 5

9 hours max drive from Birmingham

Family of four

Summer 2024 (but mostly the post is for future planning)

Looking to do anything. Maybe a few years until we're doing more educational trips like D.C.

No cruises

I'm more so just asking in general. Or do you all plan years in advanced for vacations and then save up?

What's the monthly budget like for people when thinking about vacation planning?

Right now, we do $200/month and I use extra money earned from side income to supplement it if needed.

Great ages for Disney World if thats your thing....or the Smokeys

Otherwise take them skiing during the winter/spring and do the beach in the summer

I guess it depends on what you want to do. Carnival Cruise = cheap. Trip to Switzerland = bend over.

I generally budget 10% of net income for travel. But travel includes things like going home for Thanksgiving or weekend roadtrips, not just splurge vacations.

It does not get any more solid than this advice.

Well we're doing a combo Disney World/Disney cruise trip next year. That trip is planned out and budgeted for already since it's going to be about $8k or so plus any incidentals on the trip

But a "standard" for us 4 night beach vacation can be done for under $2k. Don't really save for those as much since that can more easily be incorporated into our normal spending.

Anything more than that I like to plan for and set money aside.

$10k for a family of 4

If we go under, great

but it seems like every time we go on vacation now its $10k, so that is what I allocate for out annual family vacation

if its overseas, then up to $15k
