I realize that prices can be all over the place, but I just want to get the dings out of the body, and a decent paint job (thinking of a gun metal metallic color) . Any guesses at what I would be looking at? TIA

I'll do it for free if you let me paint whatever I want on there

I know this is gratuitous, doing it anyway:

Keep it the same color. Drop it and slap a big blower on it.

Close. I believe the truckster was a Ford. This is a '77 Caprice.

My FIL talks about Earl Scheib all the time!

At least they would have done the door jambs, they are still the origianl color.

It depends, you could go to MAACO and pay $300 to get a paint job that might range in quality from shite-tastic to passable. Or you might have to pony up and pay 2k and up for a shop to do the necessary prep work to remove imperfections before painting.

Cool, I'd be good with $2k. I just didn't want to show up to my local shops and not have a clue what to expect. Thanks.

Earl Scheib and Fact-O-Bake used to have $300 paintjobs. They were ten foot paintjobs, but very cheap.

I only know this because I recently went out and got quotes on this kind of thing. I wanted to repaint a classic car of my own but quite a few shops around me almost exclusively service insurance jobs and didn't want to take my car on. Could be similar for you as well.

I'm worried about that as well. Plus I'm worried that no one wants to get in and do the metal work that will be required (not much, but some).
