$2k might (MIGHT) cover a basic paint job with no body work. Good luck getting someone to do the body work, prep the car properly and lay good paint for less than $5k. Not if you are talking factory look paint. I budgeted a classic car build and was stunned when the paint I wanted (full prep, three coats, center stripe and clear coat) came to over $10k.

That's why I added the "and up" part. He didn't provide specifics on how damaged the car was.
