Exactly, as soon as don't pay your taxes, watch how fast they put your shite up for auction.

You have to go with what you're comfortable with, but it was in my backyard and unseen from the street so I didn't want to go through the hassle.
Mine can’t been seen from the street but the houses across the pond have clear view of my yard.

You don't pull money earning 20% when it cost 4% to finance.

HOAs suck, buy land.

Taking the wheels of a cutlass and sitting it on cinder blocks isn't really considered "building an addition". But yes, HOA will go nuclear on you arse.

You just exposed your ignorance. I bought my last house for cash and was sitting back laughing at all the slaves to the man. Until Dec 2nd rolled around and that notice from the Sheriff showed up reminding me to write them a $7k check by the end of the month or else. You don’t ever truly own shite.

Depends on the HOA..

Keeps ignorant people in check and property values up.

I wanted to put a gate in when I first moved into my home. The HOA contact was surprised that I had bothered to check with them about it and they granted nearly instant approval.

My father-in-law on the other hand has dealt with months of stall tactics when seeking approval. It’s always been petty reasoning and often simply a lack of reading comprehension by the board. He finally called them on their BS and got everything pushed along.

HOA’s have way too much power in this day and age.

The only reason I volunteered was so that I could limit the nazis. I really work hard to make sure we are not fining homeowners unless their home is way out of line.

Most times it's the rentals owned by "Tristar Gayboi Investments" that don't maintain the properties where I have to chase them down to paint shutters or trim overgrown shrubs.

Some guy in my neighborhood planted unapproved flowers and the neighborhood watch picked him up and put him in lockup in the holding shed for 18 hours

Why?

My neighborhood does just fine without one. There might be one house per street that is "out of line" at most. And by out of line, they might have a boat parked in their driveway or the grass isnt cut every 8th day.

It's an insurance against shitty neighbors.

That works well, but there's also no guarantee you don't get a really shitty neighbor who takes things a bit further but still in that area where there's really nothing you can do about it.

My last neighborhood didn’t have one and it was a shitshow. Too many rental homes with neighbors not giving two shits. Jungle yards, propped up window units, and above ground pools in the front yard.

Hopefully one day I can buy a property in an HOA for the privelege of having someone else legally tell me what I can and cant do to my house.
