Can ya'll think anything else that men would do that would never fly today?

Here's once case. It's basically a stuck landing gear. Skip to the middle and ask yourself if this would be allowed nowadays.

Stuck gear? Call Joe.

The adrenaline of the guy that pulled the gear down must have been through the roof.

I remember watching that episode. Brings back lots of memories. Thanks but in today's culture we would rather watch in crash than do something like that.

It is actually pretty disturbing that we take 0 risks because a lot of it has to do with getting sued

I am old enough to remember motels having diving boards.

That's something a man (or woman or kid) used to do back in the day that is impossible now - dive off a motel diving board.

Back in junior High ca.1980, the gym teacher made fun of students who could not perform a tumbling exercise by doing a handstand on some elevated matts. The teacher also weighed everyone in health class and audibly gave the measurements to a student who wrote it down in a teacher log book.

Could never get away with doing that today. Parents would get their feelings hurt if little susan or mike had their weight announced to their classmates. Critisizing someone's athletic ability or lack thereof is a no no also here in 2017,

When this original happened myself and a lot of others many that were pilots considered it a very stupid thing to do. The pilot should have pulled up the gear, burned of most of the fuel and belly landed it gear up. His risk of injury would have been minimal, he would have bent some sheet metal and maybe lost the prop and engine, but that is what insurance is for. Instead they chose to do something that had the potential for disaster and the injury or death of several people, not to mention the total loss of the plane.
