How many people in the US are seven feet or taller? Would you say more than 100?

My basic search on Google suggests a world average of 1.6 million below seven feet in height for every one person seven feet or taller. If the 330 million number for the US population is used an educated guess suggests there are 206 people that are 7 feet or taller. Some other guesstimates have the ratio around 2-4 million, which would put the number of people seven feet or tall between 82 and 165.

We could probably compile a list of more than 100.

Way more than 100. I know a family that has 2 of them over 7 feet.

Well, there are probably 50 in the NBA, so I'll go with 1K.

It must suck and inconvenient being that tall since society is built and made to accommodate people with average height.

Imagine the shite you have to put up with:
1. Walking through doors
2. Buying furnitures, clothes
3. Driving, sitting on a plane
4. Public bathroom

Gotta be more. There were two at LSU when I was there that didn’t even play basketball.

Per Google.... Currently, there are 36 seven-footers in the NBA, out of 390 on active rosters. That's about 11 percent.

330 million people. I'd say the odds of more than 100 would be fairly high.

You think there are a thousand people in the US that tall? No way.

LSU people from the mid to late 90s...there was a white student who was over 7feet and maybe close to 7 foot 2. He hung around the Varsity and I’d even see him in Allen Hall. Tallest dude who never played ball I ever saw. No, this wasn’t Tuba.

There are prob like 7-10 pro wrestlers today who are 7 ft.

I'd imagine more than 40 current or former NBA players.

I’m pretty the average American is taller than the average human - thanks Asia!

So we probably have more seven footers than what you cited.

There are more than 100 on NBA, college, and high school basketball teams.

Well, maybe. I know of 2 former UK players that are 7 footers that work as investment guys at a local bank.

There are probably 300 playing college basketball each season. 1K is not that much of a stretch I don't imagine.

I do agree, other than earnings potential for basketball, it probably stinks to be that tall.

Imagine being 7 foot tall, basically a lottery ticket to the NBA, and barely being able to play like Darcy Malone or Elbert Robinson.

I agree with this. However, it's a starting point in trying to determine how many people are that tall. Initially I thought maybe just over one hundred without research, and now I lean towards 300 but less than 500.

I saw a TED talk on sports science once. Guy said if you know an American male between 20-40 years old who is 7ft tall, there is a 17% chance he is in the NBA right now.
