How many people have taken a significant pay cut, because they hated their job?

I know I took a pay cut of 10k switching jobs before because I was unhappy with my current and wanted something that I felt would be better for me long term.

Yep.

I hate getting up early. I don't like shaving every day, and I hate wearing long pants. I wanted to be able to visit family and friends more often.

So, I started my own pest control company. I was poor af for the first two years, but the decision has turned out to be one of the best ones of my life.

Do what you love and the money will follow.

Advice I wish I would have taken.

I did, was working at Chysler making a lot of cash, left to move to Florida near a relative and Started another job making $10 n hour in electrical field to start. Hated factory work, felt like a rat in a cage.

Also left a job and took a $5 per hour pay cut to take the job i'm at now(11 years). I've made that difference up.

17 paid weeks off per year>>>>>>$5 per hour at the time.

My job isn't anything glorious or glamorous, but i enjoy it and love what i'm doing.

I took a $10K cut in order to work from home.

It’s all good though, because I got a promotion and got it back.

Also own a family pest business here. The freedom to make my own schedule and not have to listen to a boss is fantastic. About 20yrs in, making good.

Good for you guys.

thinking about buying a bread/distrib route. Just trying to get the vibe from many of the owners about the $$ and such.

Pretty much been told that sara lee does not have the salespeople to support their local distribs, so your not going to get new business, unless you do the grunt work.

If anyone knows some one in this biz, any info would be appreciated. I think some of the guys lie to me, because they don't want the competition(other bread guys), or want to buy the route themselves.

I took a $30k/year paycut to leave a job I hated. regret it sometimes, bit I was literally getting to the point that every day I had to talk myself into drivong there. It hasn't killed me though. I'll get back into that payrange pretty soon and will likely surpass it.

There is plenty of money to be made in the sales/service business if you treat people well, are willing to work and can manage your time. Pest control for instance..most of these businesses are all using/spraying the same stuff. People are buying you. Trusting you in their homes with their families. It's not hard, just don't be dumb.

Good for you, it takes a lot to make the switch. I took a boat load of heat from family for leaving chrysler. I literally would hate waking up to go to the place. I wished tornadoes would hit it(while no one was there).

Got out, and personally i'm 100% a better person and feel great with my life, even w the missed pay.

Might not sound significant, but for a teacher, the $250/month that I lost by switching parishes was a lot. But I was miserable. I cried in my car every morning until the bell rang. It wasn’t the kids, they were great. It was the fact that nothing I ever did was good enough for administration. I got out as fast as I could, and am much happier.

I buy all my pest control chemicals online and DIY. I don't foresee ever hiring a company to do I easily do.

Getting worked to death in current job but getting paid out the arse, since it's hourly and day bonus.

Transferring to a position where I might travel 20% of the time or have to answer the phone on a weekend. But generally a 8-5 kind of job. Salary.

60-70% pay cut....totally worth it.

I did, went from 65k at a job I hated and rage quit, to 30k year job. After 1 year was promoted to a 50k position, which after a year let me quality for a 94k the year position that I love which tops out at 140k in 6 year with pension. I'm set, but wouldn't have been if I hadnt quit the exact day that I did, and my cousin getting me that $15 grunt labor position that gave me an entry into an industry that I would have never before qualified. I quit a job earning 65k a year, to take one where the base was $28k a year, plus commissions and bonuses. I doubled my annual earnings within two years and have never gone backwards.

That's all good. I tell a lot of my own customers what to buy if they have a camp or something they want done and it's too far for me. Lots of commercial places though have to have it so diy isn't an option.
