re: How many people have taken a significant pay cut, because they hated their job?

Early in my career I took a $20,000 pay cut because the place was toxic, commute was a beating and had no room for advancement.
I quickly advanced at the new place, and within 2 years I was making more than when I left and now had a 10minute commute.
$$$ isn't worth dreading getting up and going to work every morning and getting your teeth kicked it.

I tell people what to buy all the time when they want to do it themselves.
Some people, though, don't want to bother w it. Its the same reason lawn companies exist.

Okay, well I guess for some people you have to be as descriptive as possible.
"Do what you love, as long as it's something that you can at least make a reasonable living starting out doing it, and the money will follow"

Congrats, buddy. Mean that. Awesome.

What did it take to start that up and how long before the money became a good/great wage?
My buddy in Idaho just brought this up as something he is considering.

I was making about 54k at my last job after being there for 15 years. A change in mgt made me hate going into work each day. When my current boss offered me the job he said I'd be making 35. My heart sunk but the paycut was worth less stress. As we discussed the position and benefits...I realized he meant 35/hr.

hinking about buying a bread/distrib route. Just trying to get the vibe from many of the owners about the $$ and such.
Pretty much been told that sara lee does not have the salespeople to support their local distribs, so your not going to get new business, unless you do the grunt work.
If anyone knows some one in this biz, any info would be appreciated. I think some of the guys lie to me, because they don't want the competition(other bread guys), or want to buy the route themselves.
Look into being an Amazon independent contract delivery.

I'm not sure what the regs are in Idaho, but the toughest part here (Florida) is getting the prerequisites just to be able to take the test to get a license.
You have to show that you had 3 years experience in each category of pest control (termite, general household pests, lawn and ornamental...) that you're trying to get your license in.
After that, its just a matter of having a truck, some chemical tanks and having good people skills. The initial overhead is not much at all. Even the liability insurance is very reasonable.

So in essence he will need to work for another pest control company for three years in the disciplines you want to license in?
Depending on Idaho's regulations of course?

Yep. The only other way to do it is to have a degree in entomology.

Just took a 20k yr pay cut in June bc I hated every minute of the job I was doing. I was salary spending 15hrs a day doing a job I fricking hated. Still work for the same company, just stepped down from a position & now I’m back hourly. I can make the money up in OT if I want. But know it’s my choice, not mandatory. Best decision I have made in a good while.
All money aint good money, no amount worth losing time with my family & literally donating 5-8 hrs a day to a miserable cause.

I had my own OMFS practice for 12 years. I averaged making 750-850K per year, but running the business and dealing with people was just something that I absolutely hated doing. I ended up selling the practice to 2 other docs and now have worked for them for the last 2 years. I've made significantly less ( 450-500K ) per year but just going in from 8-5 and leaving everything there has been the best decision i've made.

Best job I’ve ever had was with some OMFS guys, big names in my part of the world. Great group of people to work with. Took a management gig to make a little more coin & move up in the world you know. Worst thing I could have done, now I wish I could go back to that.
