I mean I'm 24 and pierced both my ears when I was in high school. The holes are still there, but I haven't put an earring in since I was probably 19. It definitely didn't stop me from landing a job straight out of school or already getting a promotion.

The only people who care about crap like this are insecure in their own image. That's the only reason to criticize the way someone else looks.

I don't hate people that get tattoos, I just think it's a stupid decision.

To each his own.

Agreed.

I would never get one myself, but I also won't decide to totally just judge someone based on some ink on their arm.

While I agree with your dislike of tattoos, I think your statement above is an over-simplification of why people choose to get a tattoo.

I will never understand the reason, but neither my opinion nor yours really matters in the decision-making process. I do hope that it is a fad that begins to fade away soon.

Well, no. I'm not really insecure about a fricking thing. And I'm not really criticizing so much as stating the fact that I simply don't understand tattoos or strange piercings. When I see them I immediatly think of how big a mistake the person made. I feel more pity for them than anything. Knowing they will have to grow old with the permenant decisions they made when they were young. I'm talking about big, noticeable all the time shite. Not some butterfly on an ankle bone or ear ring.

My grandfather had the U.S. Airborne paratrooper logo/division tattoo on his arm. In fact, most of his fellow soldiers had the same tattoo. He probably thinks of you nothing more than a short, fat, red coonass. Oh yeah, and a pussy too. In fact, when he retired, it brought nothing but conversation and respect and admiration from everyone.

congrats on the vanity

Most are stupid. I got one as a boot on a west pac in PI. Some real artists there. Mine is a bulldog with a DI cover that says on top and bottom "Nobody ever drowned in sweat" It's a really well done tattoo.

So like 90% of our surviving WW2 veterans are trashy.

Tattoos aren't going anywhere. They've been around for thousands of years.

It's simply either a desire for attention or a desire to fit in. I was born without them and I'll die without them. I think they're trashy and stupid. I truly think less of people when I learn they have a tattoo. I mean, deep down, why would one get one other than the fact that they have an immature need to either fit in with others who have them or they're just plain fricking dumb.

I have been planning for years to get one. The only time anyone would see it is when I have my shirt off, which is either in my house or at the beach. It'll even be in a place that I can't readily see, because I want to periodically forget about it.

I'm getting one because of the symbolism it represents. It's an image that I created and will most likely be unique to me.

I have a 2 page word document on what each part of the tattoo represents. Partly for me, and partly for ignorant pricks like you.

Isn't this post just an attempt to fit in and/or get attention

stupid choice
it depends on the person. some people limit their earning potential and options, others don't. some people have pictures or something that says something not stupid, others have a portrait of che Guevara

I don't really see them as all that different than other choices one makes regarding appearance. How stupid are those cargo shorts or how stupid is it to buy a $5,000 pair of shoes? I don't know the individual so I can't make a determination, nor do I care to. They could've given it the most thought and done something tasteful or meaningful that doesn't limit their earning potential or alienate them from people?

generally speaking, they look terrible IMO, and since that opinion is common, most professions will consider your tattoo when hiring you.

Our social marketing girl has tats and our gm is about the most traditional guy on planet erf, didn't stop him from hiring her, didn't even factor into his decision.

If not for permanence, I promise a lot of the people who detest them, would have them, and I say that as someone who came out of the navy with ZERO ink on my body.

To me, it's just about changing tastes. I can't really fathom looking at something artistically and saying, "I like that now, and I'm definitely going to like it every single day forever." I really can't fathom that. It seems like a simple little world to live in. I have shirts that I wore a lot, music I listened to, books I was into, etc etc just two years ago that I'm not interested in anymore. Putting the entire "trashy" social aspect aside, I just don't get it.

Permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.

Tattoos can tell a story.
