"Now there are some preachers on TV with a suit and a tie and a vest.
They want you to send your money to the Lord, but they give you their address. Cause all of your donations are completely tax-free.
God bless you all, but most of all, send your money"

No longer to the church. But to charities, yes.

Is that what your book is telling you?

Dude.

I do. I have done this for years and have been richly blessed.

For the past five years or so, my wife and I have made an intentional decision to tithe 10% of our gross income to the church we attend. We’ve been blessed beyond measure year after year and have committed to increasing our tithes by 0.5% each time I get a pay raise. We should end this year at 12%.
We wouldn't change it for the world. It’s the least we can do for what we’ve been blessed with.

Tithing is something you did at the temple in Jerusalem.
It’s because the Levites had no land.
Anyway, I’m not a Jew.

So he only blesses people that pay the church? Seems messed up.
Side note, I used to enjoy the healing place threads on here. Reverse ATMs, pastors banging interns, grown men getting baptized. Those threads had it all.

It isn't "just because."
They have expenses like any other business.

Never said that. You should never tithe or give anything with the idea that you’re doing it just to get something in return. That’s not what it’s about. However tithing is one of the rare instances in the Bible where God tells you to test him if you don’t believe it.
Malachi 3:10: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it"

I've seen enough pastors driving luxury cars from their gated neighborhood not to fall for that scam.

Ahh, so you have to pass a test first?

pastor(owner) of the church my wife and daughter attend had to step down last year because it was revealed that he sexually molested a 12 year old girl a few years back, no worries, he's worth over $100 million and owns all of the property of the multi campus mega-church
Yep, those catholics are a very rich bunch

That is why I watch the videos of the late Dr. Frank Pollard on Youtube. Probably best preacher we ever had in Jackson. One of the best ones nationwide when he was alive and was on the Baptist Hour radio for many years as well. About 8 years of his weekly sermons that were televised are on Youtube. Says more in 15-20 minutes than these preachers that go on and on for 45 minutes. Heck, he'd even recite complete Dr. Suess stories, If by Kipling, or other literary works in the middle of the sermon.
