When did the 10% rule start? I bet they were not giving 40% of their money to the govt who in turn supports the poor through food stamps, housing, unemployment, medicaid, etc.

A friend of mine owns a good size plumbing company in Austin. He tithes 10% to his church every year and writes it off. He also gets audited by the IRS just about every other year.

Tax exemption should be stripped and him have to pay back taxes and penalties.

Imagine not knowing the Bible and that giving 10% was a Jewish law. The new testament says to give from the heart.
It was basically the court system as well ad civic administration and welfare for the poor.
Not a bad deal for 10%
Today not so much...

Do you think it reduces taxable income by the amount he donates?
Posted on 3/9/25 at 7:28 pm to sidewalkside
Not a chance. I give maybe $10 a week.

I realize that and I’m proud of that, but I am also aware that here in Baton Rouge OLOL RMC is a $1.6 billion business.

Except most Protestant churches don’t have a worldwide network of safe houses.

Pope Francis talked me out of it. I’m joking of course, but not that much.

And what's your point? They've been fondling little boys backsides for years. That's the last place I'm going for an education or marriage advice.

pastor(owner) of the church my wife and daughter attend had to step down last year because it was revealed that he sexually molested a 12 year old girl a few years back, no worries, he's worth over $100 million and owns all of the property of the multi campus mega-church
Name/location of said church?

10% was for the Jewish priests. They had to to tithe 10% of everything, not just money. In the New Testament Paul said every one should give what feels right in their heart and that God loves a cheerful giver.
Shame on any church that compels or shames their congregation into giving a certain amount.
