I smoke cigs and support weed being legal. I only smoked pot a couple times like 5 years ago. Never did anything for me but I think it should be legal.

Causes paranoia. Risk of schizophrenia increases with increasing use, particularly if use begins in adolescence. It’s no accident that our current national mental health crisis coincides with increasing use of marijuana and over prescription of stimulants for questionable diagnoses.

We’re going to look back on this time in 10 years like we think now about the beginning of the opiate crisis. WTF were we thinking?

How old are you’re parents? People in my age group (I’m 57 55-65 age group) are very familiar with cannabis. We also understand that the overblown belief that there are 0 negative effects from cannabis for anyone is as ridiculous as the belief that the root of all drug problems stem from marijuana. So some caution as to how we progress forward is warranted.

Legalization in some form is inevitable, IMO. How that happens is what we should really all be discussing, if not now then in the near or even immediate future. I have no real suggestion, however. or maybe

Objectively less harmful than tylenol, NSAIDs, alcohol, and cigarettes. It amazes me when people support alcohol and cigarettes, especially, but do not support the legalization of marijuana. Not to mention the medical benefits. Just look at Colorado. Legalization there has raised millions for their school system and the number of opioid prescriptions and overdoses have decreased significantly.

I've noticed that people that do drugs tend to be unhappy folks. They pretend to be happy. They go to parties and put on a great display of how much fun they're having. Meanwhile, their family lives suck, their job performance suffers, and all the while they can't seem to "figure it out." They don't understand what's holding them back. They'll tend to blame everyone and everything, but themselves. And if they ever come across a "square" they will attack that person as being a prude or boring, because they're jealous. They're jealous that they can't find peace and happiness in their lives without some mood altering drug.
this sounds like projection

They grew up in the early and mid 80's with Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign. That shite was everywhere, especially network television which controlled eyeballs the way Facebook does today.

Most folks that age have a different view than your parents but I've met some that really bought into the "Just Say No" campaign and it stuck with them. Some of those are functional alcoholics. Go figure.

Against.

It's a mind altering drug with long term affects. We have a problem in this country with continually normalizing what shouldn't/hadn't, and it's not for the best of society as a whole.

Only people that want this are stoners and/or people who will finicially benefit from it. There's no long term benefit from getting stoned every day...unless you get stoned every day.

There are very few people that make this argument. The argument made is it is less harmful than tobacco, alcohol, and a number of prescribed pharmaceuticals.

Nope, as I stated in a previous post, the point I was making was that informed opinions can be had without having experimented with Illicit drug use.

Yes, but you just used heroine to have your “informed opinion” about cannabis. At least beer is comparable and a widely experienced substance comparable with cannabis.

I sure did, and both are illegal unlike beer. I referenced heroine to make my point because it is a dangerous drug. That being said, marijuana and beer as you stated are comparable, and personally I don’t have an opinion either way as to whether it should be legalized.

I just think the "Don't knock it unless you tried it" approach shouldn’t invalidate the opinion of those who haven’t. I'm sure there are plenty family and friends of alcoholics and addicts who have never drank or used drugs but have informed opinions of both.
