Anyone who squats a truck deserves to have it buried in the sand. I have slightly oversized tires and a special compressor/hose setup where I can deflate/inflate all 4 tires simultaneously. If the sand is really loose I'll air down to 10 PSI.
Back in the 70s and 80s I was lucky to fish the outer banks a lot when I was a kid and folks would drive the family sedan on the beach for weeks on end and have very little problems because they would let the air out of the tires to about 10 PSI and pump them back up with a hand pump when they were back on the pavement. Low ground clearance heavy assed rear wheel drive buicks and the like all over the place fishing. My dad had a "fishing" car, a mid 60s Falcon station wagon with a straight 6 and three on the tree. Damned thing did not have a floor in the back, just a series of holes rusted through the floor pan. He would drive that thing down dirt roads and on the beach in places that would make a rock crawler cower in fear. Not only was it a car in name only he bought used recaps LOL...not newly recapped tires but recaps other people had taken off 'cause they were worn out. Slick arse tires. about 5 inches of ground clearance under the differential and not much more under the muffler and that thing would just crawl through ruts, mud, over rocks and trees....it was as useful as a 4 wd truck...and it was a common practice, most people who did that sort of thing did it in a similar vehicle. I am not implying we did not get stuck and high centered regulalry, we certainly did, but it was just the price you paid to get to that fishing hole....

Seriously it is so prevalent my truck has adjustable pedals, presumably so shorter drivers (women) can reach them. I say anyone can drive anything they want to drive but is a 3/4 ton diesel 4 wd really the ideal school car pool vehicle and Walmart runner? It is certainly part of the insane price of that vehicle.

Yes its a scrubby tree I cut down a couple months ago, the root ball is halfway under the A/C pad outdoors. Not saying it can't be shoveled but I try to work smarter.
The rope was replaced with 1/2" static line looped 4x. The tires will spin before the rope pops this time.
Not to derail the thread but have you seen folks doing it with the rope running over the top of a spare tire? I have never done it but it looks like a good idea. I have some smallish, 4 inch or so diameter pine trees I am going to try it on. It might pull the root out more vertically and save the AC pad?

Every winter a few times to get around in snow mud while hunting. A cpl of other times at boat ramps when pulling boat out.

Quite a bit. I go to some crappy boat ramps and put in my Jon boat.
Really crappy boat ramps.

I use it occasionally at the WMA and on my folks' timber property, but most of those could probably be done in 2wd if necessary.
I had a 2wd Tundra when we had the "snowpocalypse" ice event in Birmingham in 2014 and got stuck 2.5 miles from my house with my wife and infant child. We only avoided walking the rest of the way because a dude in a 4wd pickup saw us and offered to help. After that I'll never own another vehicle that isn't either 4wd or AWD.

Every truck I've ever owned has been 4x4 and I've used it fairly often in every one. My newest truck is the biggest road princess I've ever owned though. That's mainly because I've done far less hunting and camping in the past 2 years.

Similar mindset, during the 2016 flood, I had all 2wd vehicles. Lost them all (4). Saw stock 4wds escaping much better than myself. I decided in the aftermath I would not own 2wd vehicles any longer if I could help it. I know enough that it's not a 100% guarantee, but I wanted to increase my odds if the time comes again flood or other, I would be better prepared.

I built a whole ramp using 4x4s as the support. of course they were treated.
How?
4x4 were the columns with 2x6 stringers framing into them.

I drive mine around the mall. I line all my little ducks up on the dash so everyone can see them.

Heavy rain and snow I use 4h quite a bit.

About as many times as I’ve used my 1911 for self defense purposes. Hopefully I never have to use it, but if I do I have it as an option.

We bought a F150 with 4x4 over my wife's objection. ("We don't need a four wheel drive.") A few weeks later, she ran into a ditch while backing up. Alas, she had to put it in 4x4 to get out. I'd rather have it and never need it, than to need it and not have it.

I have a gx470. I can't turn the 4x4 off only lock diffs. I rarely actually need it but i guess it's nice to have.

I use it all the time on the farm in the winter/spring months
